I think I know the source there, and frankly, while I don't trust the opinion of the person you're referring to as they've never shown any decisive proof of their previous claims... on this occasion I'm going to give some pause; given the recent discovery I wouldn't be so dismissive in this case.
As it stands, even before you mentioned that I'm towing a UA to the Soul Nebula as we speak.
The guy im refering to said that he wont post anything until he gets back to occupied space. Which is understandable. But good luck on that and tell me what you find.

Most barnacles get a regular day/night cycle.

12 or 17 spikes, and the Cali ones have 19 each.
I don't think it will regrow. None of the ones we surveyed over a week ago have. They may update them in a future patch to be intact again. Who knows?

I think they all had 17 then didn't they? All in a regular pattern though. Now they're (seemingly) random for each barnacle.
Worth noting that while there's a double, and you can select both, you'll only get one scan data package, it marks the other as already scanned.

Engineers upgrades
I'm a little confused- can we exchange cargo between ships or not in 2.1? I have seen conflicting posts on this.
If we cannot, then how can we upgrade ships that are not setup to do the full range of mining, combat & trading? I'm currently in my trading Python, set up yesterday for mining; want to achieve FSD, thruster & shield level 5 upgrades with Felicity, but will want them on my AspX for exploration....

You are right. 12s and 19s are new.
Hmm... like someone said maybe the spires are there age? like a lady-bug! The more dots they have the older they are. The less the younger... or if they have alot of spots they are poisons but we wont dwell on that...

It is possible to transfer your cargo from your ship into the new selected ship as long as it fits into it..
We can still swap cargo as before. We can't swap materials. Same as before. The biggest difference on that between 2.0 and 2.1 is that we can store 600 units of materials instead of the old max of 300.
Part of your question seems to be about swapping modules on separate ships. Yes, you can, but you need to have a different class of module on the gaining ship. For instance, I used my Asp Explorer to get some engineered Shield Boosters. I took them home and sold one. I swapped into my FAS and used the Chaff Launcher slot to buy the Shield Booster. I then rebought my Chaff Launcher using my other Shield Booster slot. Using the original Shield Booster slot on my FAS shouldn't work because I would have been buying the same class module. This has been shown to not work, so do a little pre-planning and you're good to go.
