Powerplay Powerplay "meeting" with FD

It'll still be there. "They just stopped recording and continued talking! Off with their heads!"

One thing that the conspiracy theorists in this thread need to answer is this: How is it that representatives from Hudson, Winters, Sirius, Archon, Aisling, ALD, Torval, Patreus and Mahon have managed to even sit down in the same room and have a level headed conversation without ripping each other's throats out? Either they are random people who don't know anything (in which case it'd be rather unlikely I'd be one of them), or they're people who are willing to set aside the in-game hostilities for the betterment of the current situation. The only one I don't know is Antal, because they keep insisting they have 502 leaders. They don't get to have 502 representatives at the meeting - they get to have one, but how they pick that one is up to them.

How do you think these backroom deals of non-hostilities this cycle came about? A lot of them were negotiated in this small group. Not because Vectron is Eternal and his Kindly Claw is helping, but because we all realize that from a mutual perspective, we're pretty much at the breaking point of what organized PowerPlay can handle.

I put out a request for someone to volunteer for Utopias representative in this meeting. Right now people are backing who they want in a public thread, which should please some here.

It IS available to everyone who isn't smug enough to expect everyone to give them an invitation calling them a highness.

Visit any of the communication platforms of the groups and you can discuss what people think for as much as you like. Heck, you can even change their mind or expand their view on something if you have legitimate arguments.

Just like in a democracy, you are expected to show up to vote, the ballot doesn't come over knocking at your door.

I think you missed the point. A lot of people (myself included) have umbridge with the idea of individuals talking to the devs in secret meetings that no one else outside of the circle of trust would have access to.

As one of a Torval member for 52 cycles
Im not consulted who I want to send and who will represent me in this meeting as speaker for the Torval community, and 20 other Torval members with me are neither consulted, so I believe Antal makes a point.

If that is supposed to be a little jab at me, it's not a very good one because I actually don't care.

No, it wasn't. It was sarcasm towards the attitude some people have when it comes to their voice being represented.

Yes, you do care. And all of the "veterans" that you aforementioned know why.

Haha... just wow. Torval has by far the most dedicated players that I have seen, and you guys weren't even consulted? It's obvious the organisers of this meeting are only inviting people who share their agenda.

I agree it won't fully resolve all the tinfoil hat brigade issues, but for the most part it'll give them less ammunition to throw.

And this isnt about your inter group backroom deals, no one gives two figs about them because that's what in game politics is all about in these sort of games.

However anything involving developer involvement should be made open and public (as per prior reasoning).

Yet again, youve not bothered to read my comments.

I dont care who is involved with a chat with the devs that might lead to changes to game mechanics, just that we all know what is said in the shape of transcripts or what not, so we can avoid the toxicity that having private backroom meetings with the devs to discuss the game can generate.

And yet another person falls to Jezza's strawmen and delusions.

The meeting is not about a shift to mechanics, it's about a shift on how FD handles PP as a whole, how they perceive the players to function and how it actually functions and generally to make FD better understand what PP has become, because the way they have handled the last cycle issues shows disconnect between how the game functions and how the devs perceive it.

I've not fallen for 'Jez's delusions' or any such thing. I just generally think that backroom meetings between the developers and a select few players (who might have vested interests) which could lead to mechanics changes is not the way to go, and is only going to lead to furthering the 'haves' and 'have nots' resentment and toxicity issues like we're seeing in various threads on the forum regarding these discussions between devs and players.

What kind of mechanic shift can directly benefit a single power without benefitting another as well, thus fulfilling a vested interest?

We play around the same mechanics and noone has exclusives. A power can't guarantee unique boons to begin with. At least not more than what they already have like Hudson and ALD having the best bonuses by design.

You are thinking strictly in terms of the powerplay community, this is exactly the sort of problem I'm talking about. You only care how it affects powerplay and the balance between powers there, no concern for the rest of the community, the vast majority of whom do not play powerplay.

How is this going to affect people like me, who want to play the game without powerplay? Is it going to give powers greater influence over our BGS? Is it going to result in more powerplay features, taking away precious development time from essential game features which affect everyone? Is it going to force me into powerplay by gating more content to require being pledged? Every single one of those has been suggested in the last by powerplay leaders.

We want a say too.

As has been mentioned previously. I believe this meeting is to discuss how FD handle PP issues. You know stuff like incorrectly reported numbers, cycle tick fail and things like that. Nothing to do with trying to influence future play changes. So nothing that might affect the BGS or indeed non-pledged players.

Wait, you don't even participate in PowerPlay?

13 pages of hotbed militant drama, and you're not a hardcore PP active player?

The world's gone mad.

Why?

This chat is about what happens inside Powerplays remit. It's not about extending it, this is to communicate what the collective Power play community want to do in light of the catastrophic cycle 53.

It's not a brainstorming session about new features, it's about getting what's there working again in a way that satisfies the groups playing it, and hopefully lay down some ground rules.

After what I've just read on this thread I'm extremely happy that I no longer play Power Play. I thought of joining in again, but reading through this drivel I'll give it a miss... I've never seen thread filled with such pointless semantics in my life led by one single soldier fighting for princess right of attendance.... Just WOW ....It would make one feel that the main concerns for powerplay are who gets invited to the "FD dinner" to think tank ideas...

Guys and girls - this is the time we should be communicating with PP leaders and discussing ideas with them instead of bickering about who is or isn't invited... It shows that FD is interested in working on a part of the game that is almost dead for a huge portion of the community.

Lets not squander this chance thanks to some Egos...

Similarly to how it currently does. In that you don't have to if you don't want to.

It took 13 pages for you to admit that you are paranoid?

Powers ALREADY get greater influence over the BGS. You don't see yourself obliged to pledge to affect it.

Your development time argument is a typical PP hater crap which I'm going to ignore. You're just trying to use any card you have left at this point.

Either you like it or not, PP is indeed part of the game. This means that, yes, it will consume development time. Don't like it? Tough beans.

You don't get a say on something that you don't want to participate in and that has been already established that it is a feature of the game.

Yep, I get that and it's not about trying to further one powers edge over the others, but don't forget those mechanic changes could impact on people who don't powerplay as well (such as the regular player groups, BGS simulation-centric players, RP'ers and casual Joe flying his cobra for 2hrs a week), who are people who wouldn't be represented by any such discussion.

Suppose for example, that Frontier speak to these players and come away with a feeling that they want Powerplay to interact with the BGS more, putting changes in place to affect this. It affects the player-base who don't play powerplay. The vested interest element comes from the fact this is their playstyle, and therefore they're going to want to champion it (perhaps unintentionally) over the other types of gameplay.

But lets consider an alternative to the above, the thing I'm concerned about:

Frontier talk to these chaps, take their comments (which have nothing to do with mechanic changes) onboard and go on their merry way. There is no transcript of the discussion. Frontier decide themselves that Powerplay should interact with the BGS more and make these changes themselves. Angry players, potentially who's efforts in game or entire play-style is undone by these changes know that a discussion between Frontier and the Powerplay community happened, but don't know it's content or outcome. Some of them will draw the conclusion that Frontier's design decision was influenced by these players, and before you know it, people leave the game and we've got another brilliant toxic storm of anger and hate being thrown all over the community.

I really don't want to see that. We've got enough reasons we've made up as a community to tear chunks out of each other here as it is.

If FD deem that PP should intertween more with the BGS (which it already does mind you), then that would mean that new mechanics would also be introduced and made available to people that want to play the BGS. It would mean that playing the BGS would actually be taken into account when it comes to your standing in PP.

This argument you are making is based solely on the assumption that PP would be EXACTLY the same, yet you'd have to have Rating 5, for example, to be allowed to influence the BGS anymore. That's silly. If PP gave more reasons for people to play the BGS, that's good and fine. We are playing a single game, its features should indeed have at least some connection to each other in order to provide a coherent experience. Are people satisfied with how detached from the galaxy PP currently is?

Your position is one of fear of change, without any sight of that change or information about it.

And like it has been mentioned already, the meeting's focus will not be that. And no, a representative can't go "psss, Sandro, mute everyone else a second so that I can tell you my brilliant idea that will totally not benefit my power most.".
