Whats the purpose of rotating landing pads?

As the title says, ive often wondered why the stations and outposts need to rotate when taking off, especially if you dont go to the hangar. I can see it in starports, but really I see it as a time waster and dont understand why its in the game. Even if you enter a hanger, I see no need for the rotation. Doesn't make any sense. Can someone help me to understand this?

Just seems to be part of the exit alignment, not needed really I guess, but since its there, and we know the pad can turn around, why not allow us to dock either way around on the way in to the station/outpost?

I'd be happy with that compromise :)

Turntables are there so you point back the way you came in; there's only the one door and having a station interior full of people doing U-turns would be... messy.

I've never understood why they kept the old letterbox slot for every station. Coriolis ones, sure, stick with tradition, but bigger stations should have multiple slots, or at least stacked 'in and out' slots. Think of all the visitors and deliveries that the biggest stations must (should?) see in a day, all squeezing through one door that serves as the only way in or out. No wonder most of the stations feel dead. If they accurately showed all the comings and goings, you'd be parked outside for ages waiting for clearance. Even my local shopping centre has multiple entrances and exits, and that's 9 shops and a kebab house.
