Engineers Emissive ammo

I just finished a round of Engineer updates by visiting Tod, Dweller and Felicia. Basically to try and up the levels. I've modified 3 SB's for a different boost each, I've actually had about a .8LY increase in my FSD capability and gotten the four mc turrets equipped high hicap magazines and lo and behold, the wheel of fortune granted me experimental emissive rounds on my last try for the mc:eek:! This is on a Python.

On the way back I was interdicted by an elite Cobra so I said well, let see how they work. It turns out the emissive mc was on a spot that previously mounted a mining laser and I hadn't programmed to correct the fire group[wacko]. So I ended up taking out the Cobra with the 3 hicap mc's and my vanilla laser 3c. No chance to see what the heck the new stuff did. I will try later in a RES.

Has someone else gotten to use them?

Emissive only serves to prevent the target from hiding its signature using silent running. You'll only find this useful in PVP.

That's pretty much it. Although I'm pretty sure it's an indication that the Aliens will have some sort of cloaking devices. Otherwise this would mean that unless you're into PvP, some of the special effects are a pure waste of time.

I actually find the NPC diamond back scouts can drop off my radar during battles. so it's 99% for pvp only, 1% useful for NPCs

I read somewhere that it makes gimbals and turrets, wobble less? because it becomes so much easier to target? anyone tested that?

So, has anyone actually used it in battle?

Update: Went to RES just now and tried out the modded MC's. The observations I made is that the 4 HICAP mags do help on rate of damage, one of the mods is short range blaster, one is the emissive and they do short work on Explores and less, one on one, in conjunction with 3cg laser.

Unless there is something that hasn't been seen or an upcoming change, emissive ammo is of no useful purpose. You need to re-roll to get rid of those.

It was very useful at combating stealth PVP builds pre 2.2 though.

Was it nerfed out of existence in the latest patch?

Gimbals have at least 5 relevant properties:-

1. Vulnerability to chaff / dispersal;

2. Jitter;

3. No lock against silent runner outside of resolution range (c. 500 m with A-rank sensors) unless the silent runner fires at you or a wingman;

4. Reduced tracking against cool targets (especially heat sink spammers);

5. Very wide fire arc against hot, close targets, narrower fire arc against cool, distant targets.

Emissive does nothing to affect (1) and (2) but its thermal signature amplification positively affects (3) - (5).

So if you have emissive, your gimbals will still be vulnerable to chaff / dispersal, and will still have their inherent jitter plus any RNGineered jitter, but you will at all times have lock against a silent runner - and your tracking and fire arc will be excellent.

This thread features a video (shot last night on 9 November 2016, in Open 2.2.1) showing my Courier using emissive + gimballed multis against a shieldless Clipper in PvP:
