Federal Gunships, Dropships, FAS AI acting weird and bugged. Millions Lost!!!

Several times while in Resource Extraction Sites these stupid new AI have just attached themselves to my top deck of my Anaconda and just blasted me from that position.
I am unable to thrust or reverse fast enough to remove them from my upper deck. Not to mention that a full boost would crash me into the asteroids.
The current AI is so focused to keeping their nose towards us that no other game mechanic works anymore.
Needless to say that the constant ramming and firepower eventually destroyed my Anaconda.
.................................Here's a pic for you.............................

Needless to say that I am sick and tired of loosing millions to these so called IMPROVED AI.
Please comment if something like this is happening to you as well.

Thanks Commanders.....

Yes i am seeing this...NPCs alwayd front facing no matter what you do...i posted yesterday how a FDS was mirroring my every move...

That's pretty much how I fight Anacondas in a FAS. I'm faster and have a better turn rate, meaning that once I get on top of one and behind its gun arc, about the only thing that's going to move me is a FA-off corkscrew and even then not for long.

What do we want here, npcs that refuse to fight to the strengths of the ships they're using?

Did you try turrets by the way OP? Also, a full boost in a 'conda in an asteroid field is very unlikely to boost you into asteroids. It might if you don't actually fly your ship at the same time.

Congrats to the AI..sounds like that tactic worked a treat then lol
To be more accurate the AI in the picture got destroyed when I diverted all power to shields and the rest to weapons ..... but then the very next Federal Gunship did the exact same thing and killed me.

Yes indeed it was my turrets that eventually killed him ... but the next gunship did the exact same and destroyed me before my turrets could do enough damage and or shields could recover. All power was to SYS and Weapons so I doubt a boost would have helped ;(
I know how this would be an awesome tactic for a real person ..... but if ALL the AI just do this all the time now .. the game is definitely broken.

Did you attack the next one whilst your shields were still low, or did it attack you? Have to say that recovery time is a much bigger deal in 2.1 than it was previously - I used to charge round res sites with 4 pips in weapons and 2 in engines, not even worrying too much if my shields did get dropped because I knew I could fry anything that came at me before it did major damage. Those days are definitely gone now; whether its by using SCBs or just waiting for them to recharge, having fully charged shields and plenty of pips in them is pretty critical now against anything that you think might get some shots on you.

Note - I'm no expert flying a battle conda, I use mine for trading and mining mainly. Rarely fly anything bigger than my FAS or FDL in combat situations, partly for this reason. Did use to love my combat Python but I can't see that getting many run-out now, think I will be keeping the mining build on it for a while.

I'm not saying you are doing something wrong but please don't assume you are not able to do better in this situation.

Did they just come straight at you and locked in that position or you were attacking them and suddenly found yourself in this situation?

This is important because one illustrates that you lose track of positions and get too close instead of keeping a distance of 500-1000 meters, which is the ideal attack range of an anaconda. 1.2 km even.

Otherwise, if you indeed were trying to keep the distance but the enemy ship came directly at you despite you backing off, this looks like a scripted in behavior or some side effect of another movement pattern and needs to be looked at.

Anyway, if you can recreate the scenario and post a video, it'll be appreciated (of course don't risk another conda for this. Just, if you have some recording software such as shadowplay, keep it running and be ready to save the last few minutes).

Seems about right to me, it's a valid tactic against an Anaconda: land on the upper deck and blast the cockpit :)
Kudos to any player that could get me into that kind of headlock ..... but the AI does cheat a bit too much now.
Also pretty sure this behaviour is not intended .... 2 Cobras ... FAS ...Clippers .... just humping each other in space for 5 min and blasting each other until 1 of them Out-Shield-Strengths the other.
We are supposed to dogfight and RAKE each other with Blast after Pulse Blast ... as the Book describes space battles in the Elite Universe.

And thats how I fight big, slow ships.

If I'm in a smaller, more nimble ship, I implant myself right up the tailpipe of the other one :)

You can't turn quick enough to engage effectively, and your entire ship is in my crosshairs.
Jousting against ships with superior firepower is just dumb.

And the game is not broken.
So now you know the tactic, you (the human) can change your behavior to counter act this tactic. They will just keep doing the same thing.
Adapt and destroy.

To be accurate .... I am busy destroying the Viper in that Federal Wing when the Gunship attaches itself. (Only 2 ships and I destroy the viper fairly fast)
This happened twice within 10min. I take out the wingman .. the other ship latches on and keeps firing.

So, NPCs may get stuck on your big fat ship and fire all weapons at point blank?
Well, that's the way I actually kill commanders flying big ships with my Federal Frag Ship... :)

So basically from this day forward you would be happy if every NPC attached themselves to you and mirrored all your moves while blasting you point blank ?
They have INSTANT access to all movements and can match you in every way.
Sounds like a FUN game ... lets keep the AI just as it is now ........

Many folk lauding the AI but it's as 1 dimensional as it always has been.
Tougher to win but little variety across the various ranked NPC ships.

I'm so close against big ships that chaff isn't useful for them, my gimballed giggle all around the place but I keep blasting the ship (being so close).

And this is why I wont fight in a big ship.

1. I suck at piloting them.
2. Limited against smaller ships. Especially multiple ones.
3. Too big of a target.
4. It hurts on the buyback.

Yes, I will be happy the day the AI will be as scary and unpredictable as real players.

I guess these Anaconda commanders that I managed to kill in less than a minutes by attaching myself to their big fat hull, and blasting their powerplant in 3 bursts of triple frag cannons, did not like it as well.

So what? should I ask for permission next time, maybe? Should I stop doing that? Why should the AI not use deadly maneuvers as well?

And you call them stupid?

That's why I parked my Condie and pulled my Python out of storage. The Condie is too much of a target. I like the AI's at the moment, they are the challenge they should be.

This post is like the Russian police. Stern... but fair.
