Engineers Any issues swapping modified FSD?

Am running a Level 4 FSD on my Type-9 missions runner, am very happy with the new performance. I was about to move my Anaconda & T9 miner to upgrade them in Farseer, instead of upgrading can I swap the drive into my Anaconda & mining ship when needed? Am figuring there is no need to waste materials, I can only fly one ship at a time.

Good question...basically, does the rebuy interface retain modifications? I should hope so, but until someone tries it...

I've seen a few posts from people who lost upgraded modules trying to switch them to another ship, and I've not seen anyone post that they did it successfully, so I wouldn't recommend it.

Yes. I've sold multiple modified modules then switched ships to rebuy them back again. However the 10min rule and staying in station and not log out applies. It still unnerves me that my connection can drop during the swap. So usually do a few at a time with multiple swaps (out of paranoia)

yes you just move it across the same way as regular gear, I'd heard however that you need to make sure the module grades aren't the same when you swap (so swap a A6 modified with a B6 unmodified)

I've moved shield boosters, shields, weapons so far with no problems, but not any core internals.

Sorry I don't quite understand, all my big ships run 6A FSD's, are you saying I should downgrade the FSD on my other T9 & Anaconda, switch back to the modified ship and then sell the FSD?


Edit - Ah ok I get you, makes perfect sense. Selling a second 6A FSD would override the modified FSD 6A that I sold. I'll strip the ships before making the swap.

I switch module very often. FSD, weapons, HRP. Everything is fine. Even if you disconected, you still have 10 min (could be 15) to log in and take your module back.

I think that the posts that I've seen all related to the problem noted above (where you have an unmodified version of the same grade module fitted to the second ship) which made it impossible to swap.

I swapped modified MCs from my iEagle to a Sidie so it does work.

What sometimes causes issues is if the ship you want to put the sold modified item back on to already has the same class and rating for its unmodified item. The UI doesn't always recognise the modified one as being different.
In those cases, just sell the unmodified item or swap for a cheap one at a different class or rating.

It's totaly fine even in this case.

It is a risky move, if you can't log in (server loss, connection lost, real life priority) then your precious modified module is gone forever.

But the chance that it happens is low, in any case i would highly suggest to do this only when it's really needed.

Yeah thats what we seemed to get from it - I've not swapped any module myself that has the same rank and rating on both ships so I couldn't add any personal experience just what i'd heard.

Yes you can transfer them and I've transfered an FSD several times now. However I did lose a level 3 FSD the first time I tried it because I didn't realise there's now a "buy previously sold" option and it doesn't just appear in the list as it did in 2.0. (I think that's why people are posting about having to be careful about trading the same class actually because originally I attributed the loss to that)

I use a 'conda with 40LY jump to fetch modified modules from Engineers and swap them at home to avoid many-hop journeys in the target ships.
No problems noted yet, even with same class - just swapped a 4A short range blaster beam from the 'conda into my FDL for example.
As noted above, if its the same class you have to access via buy back.

I swapped modified Power Plant, Thrusters, Power Distributor, Hull reinforcements and some Multi-cannons from my Anaconda to Federal Corvette.

I did in a pretty paranoid manner, stripping and rebuying one module at a time in case I got kicked from the Server.

Too much effort went into upgrading them to lose multiple modules in a disconnection.
