Quick report from IC 4604 nebula:

After a sweep on 'most of the' systems within a radius of 40Ly from the center of the nebula, I've came across this system:

This one is actually very similar to the Pleiades JC-U B3-2, with these two small potato-ish bodies close to the star.

A closer look to the 2nd body reveals this:

If there is any chance of a barnacle in this nebula, this looks like the best starting place for the hunt. I'll park the ship here and call it a day. Tomorrow.. oh my, don't know where to start from ..

So im not smart guy... but im pretty sure that nebula is the same as the barnacles symbol. To the right of my screen is barnards loop... and in the centre i think is California? I think. But they look VEEERY simaler

It actually is California nebula. But i wonder what the star in the middle of it is? It does not show up on my gal map.

What ever we are looking for. Is in the California nebula. What ever it may be..

Hello everyone. I've never seen someone talking about it, and think it could interest you all. I'm at HIP105391 in the bubble, and stumbled upon a strange USS. It's a part of a destroyed outpost or something bigger. There are a lot of other destroyed ship around, like eagles, asps, haulers.... it has a private data point, sending strange notification. With debug camera, can get near it and listen some morse, see some blinking lights, and a strange voice... saying something I can't understand... Here is the sound and some pics. Really creepy flying near..

I'm currently collecting fragments at a California Nebula site, but the 'bulbs' from the barnicles aren't showing up as "Meta-Alloys", they're showing as normal metals Gold, Cryolite, Uraninite, Indite, etc.

Is this normal?

I only want some so I can unlock the Farseer engineer!

Meta Alloys are bugged now (since 2.1). This is the reason why the commodity market in Maia system is simply selling them.

It's a bug. It will be fixed on a patch soon. Until then, you have to buy one in Maia (the planet base).

Ah thanks for that.... I've been to Maia, but it was always empty.... however, I want to the station, not the surface base!
Heading back to the bubble now with a LOT of fragments and 32t of cargo!

I have been able to get to the Witch Head Nebula today: it is almost completely surrounded by the permit-locked Col 70 Sector but there is a corridor of stars leading in. If you head for HIP 23058 (almost on the exact opposite side of the nebula from Barnard's Loop - take care: it's a fairly close binary with a distant tertiary), that is ~150LY away and you can then continue onwards without Col 70 Sector systems getting in the way.
.
The way that this nebula is just accessible and yet surrounded by a permit-locked region tells me that there is something interesting to find in here. Also, there is only one way in and one way out, so if there's ever any trouble in here you will have to run the gauntlet in a particular direction: it's a choke point. I did not find any signal sources on the way in and plan to search a few worlds here for Barnacles, or anything else new.

i do wish they would hurry up and put the content into the col 70 sector or just unlock the permits until the content is ready, its dodgy game design and poor / lazy programming choices on behalf of Fdev

Well I went to look at the new barneys and for once I found them without having to log in and out all the time. Still I'm pretty sure I would have missed them without the coordinates. Is there a crashed ship around the area? What I can say is that the sound is different and I have not harvested the spikes.
Btw I had visited this system, and I had not explored that planet, out of spite since is was when I was having trouble seeing them.

BTW I have a question, can you put a bookmark on a location on a planet, because I can't do that, I can only bookmark the planet itself

Much more than Col 70 is permit blocked. Col 69 (or it may be 21) I believe is too along with Horsehead Dark Region and a number of named systems within those areas. All in all, thousands of systems are permit blocked due to these sectors starting from around the witchhead nebula all the way to the other side of Barnard's loop.

There is a way in though. I'm in Barnard's loop now. Still hunting for Polonium or Cadnium so I can make the jump i need to continue traversing the loop. Tempted to go back to the bubble to upgrade FSD and head back as hunting for these materials out here is proving extremely difficult for synths.

i wonder if its worth scanning bodies of interest in some of the deeper non blocked col sector, there could be unrelated discoveries or easter eggs to find, but thats beyond the remit of the formidine rift mystery

At a random lat/long position? No. You can bookmark a surface port, settlement or engineer's base.
