CQC (arena) Delivers!

...
Unfortunately, probably in part due to the constant bad-mouthing on these forums, there are relatively few players so finding a match can sometimes be challenging. Usually, I just switch over to CQC when I get fed up with "exploring" (i.e. Jumphonking thousands of nearly identical systems.) but I always have something like Game of Thrones or Expanse to watch while I wait for the matchmaker to do (or not do) its thing.

Sometimes As soon as I click Deathmatch, I'm thrown into the midst of a battle. Other times, like yesterday, I wait for ages before a single match can be found.

Most of the time I seem to be able to match approx 6-8pm BST most week days and just about anytime Saturday morning to early evening Sunday. My wait times vary. If its longer than five minutes I will start a fresh search and alternate between team death match and death match.

I haven't been on in a little while as my hotas has lost its desk top realestate on account of RL stuff lately, but I definitely agree. CQC is great fun in its own right.

Arena is great and I love to play a match or few from time to time, however: 95% of the time I can't find a match, no matter how much I wait. After few minutes I quit.

What sort of reaction would there be if we could queue up for matches using the ships in the main game? Create classes, or better yet give ships weighted values. Like 3 Vulture = 1 'Conda, or 2 FAS = 1 'Vette? My observation is that Arena/CQC would be more popular if players could use the ships they truly enjoy. At least expand Arena for this kind of use.

I have played CQC and if ya can get a match it's indeed fun I just wish bots would fill in the blanks.

CQC will probably be a good training exercise for when ship-launched fighters arrive.

Of this, I have little doubt. However, the weapon mechanics of CQC are somewhat different to the main game so I suspect that there will be some changes applied. For example, fixed mount weapons in CQC have rather generous "lock-ons" in CQC.

I struggle with that too. They could really do with an open type chat lobby as well as a few stats on how many are playing, how many in lobby etc. my patience for waiting when I don't know any of the above is the amount of time it takes me to make a cup of coffee but if I sit down, have a sip and still nothing I log out again (or I did and will do as I haven't played lately, though I am looking forward to it).

Is this CQC or dating sites?

I think their are some technical issues with implementing bots with all those obstacles about or that's the excuse when you don't want to do something.

The point is, sitting there and waiting for a match that may not come is frustrating. If there is a chat room you can organise matches outside the "friends" list and if you know how many people are currently playing etc you have some idea of whether or not it's you're likely to be in a match relatively fast. Dating site, yuck. So glad I got married before dating went digital.

I've had more consistent fun in CQC than in any other aspect of the game, period. (At least up until 2.1, which broke it enough that I'm taking a break).

What happened in 2.1 that broke it? I've played more since Engineers dropped than before.

Yep, PvP is fun.
I wish more players would consider / recognize PvP as the most exciting aspect of the game instead of running away from it and complaining on the forum.
i wish the game would go more in the direction of PvP challenge instead of the current PvE grind fest.

It is true that some people are pathologically afraid of PvP.

When I get properly matched against similarly skilled players, CQC is great and I love it.

It really sucks if I'm matched with lvl 1's or players with an effective skill 10 times my own.

I also really hate the weapon power up, and I seriously believe that CQC would be much better if it were removed.

CQC is LOADS of fun, but unfortunately broken as hell on VR. Every game I load up, the camera defaults inside an asteroid as I wait for death so it resets inside my ship.

Unfortunately, the whole system of progression really discourages me from investing more time into CQC/Arena; more often than not I am up against a level 30+ who will waste me, and everyone else, in seconds.

Level 30 is far from the top. It's the ones with the yellow badges you want to watch. They are prestiged, which means that once they have got to rank 50, they receive one prestige point and go back to level 1 with no ship upgrades.

I did find the first few days infuriating as I said in my OP, but it passes, really it does. In a few weeks I'll probably be prestiged if I can find enough matches. Not sure when I'll stop playing TBH. Can't ever see me getting to Elite.

The bug is a bit sad considering E: D was one of the VR ready package highlights.

Level you should genraly ignore, take a look at K/D and W/L ratio to get an idea of how good a player is. Its a much better indicator.

I love CQC! My thumb, however, does not. That top hat switch wears it out... always having to change those pesky power settings. I had to resort to rebinding the arrow keys for power management on the keyboard to help but when I use those, I can't keep my hand on my throttle! Boost on the toe brakes, however, does wonders. :)

Don't you have any throttle hats?

I use the Saitek X65F throttle which has a truckload of hats on it.

The stupidly OP heat beam change for one. Messed up power distributor stats for another. And although the VR bug doesn't *directly* affect me since I don't have VR, a lot of my favorite opponents do.
