I originally posted that I was remaining open-minded about 2.1 as it certainly had a lot of new content that due to it's scope and complexity, just didn't deserve a "rush to judgement."
After now having really immersed myself in it for a couple weeks, today I'm ready to share my current thoughts.
BRAVO!!! FD
WELL DONE!
It does take a few weeks to really absorb it all. So if you are still one of the skeptics, please be patient and persistent. Once you get the big picture and fill in the details, you're in for the best game play so far.
Many of you who've read my posts know that I'm not afraid to be critical when it's warranted. Likewise, the time for high praise is here.
1. As is from the very beginning, the AUDIO team continues it's incredible run of marvelous audio enhancements. This has always been outstanding and the additons in 2.1 continue that tradition.
2. Missions are now well integrated and relevant and fun. I've been doing missions for the past couple of days without any major glitches. The occasional modification to the mission for bonus with 0 time left being the only notable exception and even that's nothing more than a minor annoyance. Whatever the early complaints were seem to all have been fixed.
3. Engineer bases are a hoot, and the landing challenges are great fun.
Engineers brings all of the games major elements into relevance in a complex and challenging way that takes some time to appreciate. For me, this is remarkable refreshing and I'm very appreciative for what FD has done here. For most of 2.0, I was getting pretty bored and didn't have a lot of incentive to log on. Now, I can't wait to get back into the pilot's seat and work on getting the next upgrade for my fleet.
This is an incredible achievement. Again - THANK YOU FD
My only concern is that new players may be overwhelmed. If you are in that camp, please don't give up, or you'll really be missing some fabulous gaming experiences.
This is truly now "BEST IN CLASS" for this genre and far ahead of the competition.
