Engineers Gathering Materials Conundrum

So, I have run into a bit of a roadblock in my material hunting and I am wondering if anyone has some tips to help me out.

The problem I have is I needed a bunch of commodities obtainable only through missions, so I flew around and got about 8 of each of the ones I needed.

The upgrades I am trying to get also require components from haulage ships, so I went to a nav beacon in anarchy (avoid bounty), however this resulted in me being attacked by 5-6 pirates everytime and I was forced to leave.

Then I tried interdicting in super cruise, yet before I could find a hauler at least 2 pirates would show up and try to interdict me, so I was again forced to leave.

I went to high security system and it didn't really change anything.

So, is my only choice to get the other materials I require dumping the cargo that I got from doing 12 hours of missions? Or is there a better more logical choice?

Yes, unfortunately that is pretty much your only choice if you want to stop getting hounded by npc pirates. One would logically think to apply a solution to this before the problem even arose but here we are. 6 months for "quality" yet they couldn't add a storage.

Really?

Well, there goes 12 hours of my life

I'm gonna wait a bit though and hope a savior comes and tells me a work around.

All I can say is, persevere...
I wish I could tell you there's a work-around.
I'd happily raise my hands, scream and run in circles with anyone who's intentions is to ask for a solution.

I found a nice anarchy system with one planet and the star. I got about mid way between the two (closer to the planet than the sun) and about 45 degrees off the beaten path between them and just drifted.

This had two effects. It meant I was well out of a gravity well so when a cargo ship appeared I could immediately accelerate to closing on them. It also meant I had a *lot* of notice if anything came my way to interdict me which was rare. Most of the ships that tried were smaller vipers and cobras so I just killed them. I think a clipper or python (forget which) headed my way once so I just high waked out and returned.

After each successful interdiction I returned to my holding station. After about two hours I left with a load of materials. All of that was in an AspX.

Nah, there's no workaround. You have two choices now:

1) kill the endless waves of pirates who will constantly hound you for as long as you carry that cargo around

or

2) sell the cargo, collect the materials you need in peace, and then acquire the cargo once more

Those are your options, really.

I can solve your "hauler ship" dilemma. Go to Ao Qin. It's an Anarchy system in War. There's a Seeking Weapons POI near a planet with a station. It spawns 3 T9's. They don't join in attack of you, but can have escorts. Kill them. Collect. Relog when they are dead. Took me 20 minutes to get 8 Chemical Manipulators.

If they aren't in war anymore, you can look for other Anarchy systems in such a state. Other "Seeking" style POI's would work too.

Yes op, you did things in reverse order.

Make a list of materials you need to do intended mods and collect enough to do a few at a time for each visit to the Engineer. Once you've met the data and Materials list, then it's time to collect the cargo you need.

Doing it backwards will take forever to get the materials needed.

Most materials can be obtained in res sites and Anarchy system beacons. Make sure you have NO cargo in the hold or you'll get gang swarmed in less than a minute and have to run for your life.
