Question to FDev on Missions Board.

I have a question for those in Fdev who recoded the missions board.

In Pre 2.1 I could mine in a ring and fill up with various Metals etc, go to the Bulletin board and there would be at least 1 maybe 2 missions for painite or osmium etc which I could accept and turn in.

After 2.1 it seems when i arrive in a station which before I left had metal requests with said metals I am faced with ice asteroid requests and vice versa.

So my question is. Have you fiddled with the new Missions board so that any fetch or mining request mission will never contain anything you already have in your cargo hold?

If anyone else wants to test my theory with something like a famine status system and you bring a cargo hold of all foods to see if the Missions board suddenly drys up or 3 in a wing all with metal, rocky, ice mined commodities and see if all your missions boards differ.

I for one think the old system was better, yes I could make more money/ rep. But my point is a system in demand for certain commodities shouldn't be altered by pre landing player inventory. imagine a starving system of millions demanding food , but no we won't ask CMDR X cause he has 700 tons of meat and fruit in his cargo hold already, we will ask CMDR Y who is about to dump 700 tons of slaves in our market.

OP, did you accept said metal requests or just hope that no-one else accepted/fulfilled those contracts while you where out shooting rocks?

Or was it a case of you not accepting contracts in order to try and circumvent the whole 'this mission is dangerous and may bring unwanted attention' mechanics...

You're missing the point. OP is not trying to "get away" with something. In the past, you could fly around with a bunch of cargo in your hold, and if you dropped into a station, there was the *possibility* of finding a mission at that station which coincidentally happened to request something you were already carrying. You would accept the mission on the spot and immediately turn in the requested material, completing the mission without even leaving the station, since you were fortunate to already have exactly what the mission giver needed. Now, it seems like the 2.1 missions have been set up so that they are deliberately generated in such a way that they will never request something that you already happen to have with you.

It *seems* like this is the way it works, but we don't *know* for sure, and it would be nice to know if this is the case or not.

Disregard. Changed my mind.

bump as it was so early in the morning i posted it, it got buried to 3 pages by 7am

That's all part of the new gratification and punishment system Brett C incorporated to the forum. It basically works like this: If you are known to be a constant whiner, doomsayer or generally unconstructive you'll get the worst missions, lots of interdictions and overpowered NPCs. Everyone else is allowed to play the game like the devs intended. :)

I just came back from a mining trip and managed to pick up 2 missions for minerals/metals I already had. I think what's happening is that, with all of the new stuff, the odds of getting a mission for something you have is simply lower. Used to be I got requests for the 3p's and osmium all the time (this time just the 2), but there were still plenty of requests, just for stuff I hadn't bothered to bring back. It's the same as mining pristine metallic rings, "fewer" 3P asteroids because it's now diluted with all of these new materials.
It makes sense to me, although of course it's a bigger pain because it's not as lucrative. Meh!
