Engineer grind, thanks FD for making ED dull :(

It took me a week to get my Asp to fly at 430 m/s and jump at 37LY. I don't call that a grind. If you want a grind, try a Korean MMO. Or really, most online games.

All I know is the expansion is allowing us to make our favorite ships *better*. I don't see how this is a problem. Or dull. It's not like you have to do it unless you have PVP very regularly.

Certain commodities aren't even available unless you get them from missions. They're basically engineers exclusive items.

Also, let's also add to the fact that this game has no real upgrades in engineers for mining or trading. No rigged cargo bay expansions at the cost of hull integrity for example, or high yield mining laser mods for mining as another. It's all combat and exploration-related. And exploration is literally just FSD right now.
Yet it requires farming from planets to get anywhere..... What a great design.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME???

Mining and trading benefit from added FSD range, lighter armor, lighter HRPs, lighter shield boosters, buffed turrets, buffed mines, buffed missiles, and a weapon focused capacitor helps out mining quite a bit. Exploration got lighter weapon mounts, lighter armor, lighter HRPs, lighter shields, and more heat efficient power plants.

Hold on, we don't have access to storage yet? Really? That can't be right - this update was all about upgrading your ship and inventory items, how on Earth can there not be a way to stash your stuff at a station?

Is every min-maxer and there dogs going too start a new thread saying exactly the same thing, the most boring thing in elite at the moment is these forums. some will get it some wont if you think it,s a problem now it,s only going to get worst, for your gaming approach that is.
The simplistic approach of 1.0 are gone forever get over it, I,m not just posting to give you a hard time so i,ll give you a hint many Ex min-maxes have got, just play the game and take it as it comes. It is not a game to be won or lost it is a game to be played.
there are many threads from people that changed there mind set and now enjoy playing, personally i don,t have a single engineer mod and i don,t care. and am i at a disadvantage no, have not lost a single ship since 2.1.
basically your trying too hard take a break do a clear save and change your approach.
Or give up it,s not like frontier are going too change the game for you. Feel free to attack me, don,t give a toss just trying to give you some tough love.

I,m officially coining a new phrase for this type of condition "The Mega-Min-Maxer Blues"

So what do you do with the useless commodities from missions?
Or is that another grind you aren't imposing on yourself?

If they're commodities, & I don't much need them, then I sell them. Next moronic question?

Oh, & since when are missions a "grind"? I'm guessing you must be a bit....ahem....."special" if you think that.

Basically this is it - the amount of entitlement in people complaining about 'grinds' is ridiculous.
Yes if you want it FAST, then you have to go straight for it. Get all those materials. Adding in gameplay doesn't mean adding in rewards instantly. It takes efforts. Like my old high school motto, Nihil Absque Labore.
I've already got a ton of materials over the last few days just by doing missions and bounty hunting.

Spec legacy firmware is a material which is commonly given as mission reward from surface stations in Deciat.

Actually, Farseer's mat requirements (as far as I managed to see) all can be obtained solely from running missions from Deciat surface bases.

I obtained two spec legacy firmwares, 4 arsenic and 4 chemical whatevers in about an hour of salvage missions in a Cobra.

My ranks are master, broker, trailblazer if that means a thing. I got interdicted once and died zero times. I left the deciat system exactly one time. All missions were in system. One was hauling 2 tons of clothing between two bases on the same planet. Could have done it all with the srv but it would take about 2 days so with the ship it went.

A useful suggestion. Thank you.
I don't mind working to get something, but just randomly searching forever waiting for the RNG gods to oblige isn't my idea of fun.

Except, if you want them, you have to grind your way through multiple layers of RNG. Over and over and over. Just like power play. It's a valid complaint.

Upgrading your ship is awesome. The way they've implemented it is extremely tedious.

I've been looking for one material for 2 weeks to upgrade the engines on my FAS. It's just frustrating at this point that I can't get a mission or data point with what I need.

Note the language

FDev is forcing me to grind or quit

It is an interesting way off looking at it.

It is a want not need, anyone can keep playing without Mods, you are not forced to seek them out, you aren't forced to quit if you don't.

Except it isn't random. The blueprints give you hints and tips on where to find all the items you need. The only way they could improve on that is if they rewarded people who did detailed surface scans of appropriate planets, by giving them a far more detailed picture of how likely certain Materials were going to turn up on the surface of a planet.

see, this is a good idea

The one big thing i would totally agree with is the game needs off ship storage yesterday, fdev i defend you often but not including that as part of 2.1 was a big f.....up, You should probably make it your number one priority, to be completely honest without it the game feels like an alpha/half backed/disjointed/awkward well you get the point, unlike almost every other issue i,d be surprised if a single one of your million players would disagree.

Implement it immediately and watch the joy. nothing you can add to this game right now can match the good will this addition will generate.

Get the whole team working on this now, i,ll expect the patch tomorrow.

....and one I feel certain will be implemented in future updates, as long as the suggestion is couched in a helpful fashion, not a whiny & self entitled fashion. They respond better to the former.

In the material tool tips, it says these materials are commonly given as mission rewards. Signal source searching comes later in the text and secondary.

This may be a big problem if everyone is trying to randomly find stuff all the time all over the galaxy. Apparently the mission reward mats are skewed in favor of nearby engineers so best way to obtain mats and commodities for an engineer is to start from running missions from the system the engineer is situated in.

Makes sense, thanks good info.

Sadly we'll probably get it at the earliest end of the year lol. At worst, we'll get it in season 3 or 4 or even 5. Hell, it took them 6 months just to implement such a simple feature called 'Bookmarks'.

About the grind, you guys should wait lol. For FD to tweak the loot and the entire crafting mechanic. Its pretty much a given the crafting process and the grinding will be made easier and more convenient in future patches as evident in all MMOs as they age, once FD finds the perfect balance then dive back in. In the meantime just continue doing what you always do pre 2.1, get Fed/Emp/Pilot ranks or hoarding credits, lol i'm sure further down the road those credits will become useful, maybe allowing low grade mats to be purchased with credits from special NPC vendors, something along those lines, need a money sink after all.
