Although the only thing the OP is actually right about is the flamboyant amount of:

Okay, so here's the facts. Frontier is losing large portions of their community by the day. Their forums aren't a place to have "discussion" anymore, it's a place for complaining.
I do agree that having the moderators delete most of the useless complaints threads including this one would be a good thing.

This is obviously a baseless SC propaganda disguised as a semi concerned post fearing the death of ED. It reeks of schadenfreude, like if it were true, the OP would be delighted in the game's death.

Probably in retaliation of the outrage in the SC discussion in the other games forum here on frontier forums, you know, the one with dsmart paying a visit.

Even a confirmation of negative PR campaign from the SC folks wouldn't surprise me anymore but until we see proof, I'll refuse to acknowledge they can stoop that low.

all forums are for complaining, the fact that ED's is like that isn't indicative of anything :p happy customers are busy playing

Elite needs storyline development. That's what's missing from the game and what would make it truly great.

This month on Galnet: Nothing happened.

Ye, apart from that there is literally a player driven contest on who gets to be the next power.

No development here guys, move along.

Exactly!

Discussion happening is all the indication FD could ever want to know people are interested in their game (apart form them having all the data of who's playing for how many ours, their exact movements and the number of support requests they receive and everything else I wouldn't know about because they kinda own the game).

There's more discussion going on here each and every day than it was on TeamLiquid forums on the first two months of SC2 launching. If you want to see how a dead game looks like, go to TOXIKK forums. Even they are still releasing updates and hope they'll make a break in the following months. The market is so much more dynamic these days. I'll bet we have not been even close to seeing what FD has in their sleeve for when SC and NMS are real things to compete with. These are industry veterans of many success and failure stories under their belt.

ED is a damn fine game, i played thousands of hours, two accounts and i am really confident about his future. So fly safe Commander ;)

Same here, I also have two accounts, this one, more of a mule account played when I am away from home or sat in the office on a quiet day, and another focused around pvp.

I have played more since this update hit than I have in a long time. Further, friends and family are also back playing. Although in fairness there is a trend in games that after a major update people will return, at least for while, although talking to folks in game and at home they are largely happy with the game as it is right now.

Every time another idiot posts a poll, most of them clearly biased trying to find folks to back their corner and foretell doom, the vote inevitably falls in favour of the current changes. These results are all the more telling than said idiot realises, as many people are only motivated to visit forums when they want to complain. The majority happy with the game use their free time to play.

Elite is still a dam fine game, it just needs proper guidance at the helm. Maybe Frontier should ask the community what they want before they put all that work into it.

I cant understand why they (and other mmos) do not do this. I mean if an update is released and we voted on it we cant very well complain that we don't like it can we.

What a breath of fresh air that would be.

This game isn't and won't die. It's fantastic and only gets better. To compare elite to any other game just shows ignorance to elite and the games it's being compared to.

I can't wait to play SC. But the only thing that would stop me playing elite is if the server's went down for good.

You are joking, you have to be? No game should ever be driven by what is always a vocal minority sat in a forum.

They don't do this simply because masses don't always choose the best option, solely because they lack the experience and understanding of game design. Something which sounds awesome on paper could be a disaster in an actual game and a game designer knows which is which better than your average joe.

Another reason is the concept of too many cooks.

How's Eve Online doing these days as I can remember the threads from December 2003 claiming it was going to die due to castor. At that point we were lucky to break 1k players on a Sunday night...

Actually, interesting you should ask..

If I want true drama, and complaint threads in an all you can eat buffet, then I grab the sweet and salt popcorn, and spend half an hour in their forum.. That is true drama.

When CCP take FDEV's stance on having a persistent universe, and allow private sessions, then EVE may almost be the perfect space adventure game. BUT CCP won't, and as such I'll never touch EvE again with a 1000-AU barge pole. Unwanted player interaction in EvE kills its potential.. Yet it's the fundamental foundation on all it's built on. Lovely structure, but the foundations of the tower of Pisa, they want a niche player base, and they have it.

Me? EvE is excellent for drama, popcorn, and exemplifying exactly how to make a fantastic game into something I avoid like the plague.

Now for ED: it has its flaws, but it sure cements over the warts of EvE. ED is a game I want to play for that exact reason.

When you get a cross between EvE and ED, would be the only time I'll test the grass on the other side of the fence. As ED develops I dare say that ED will be the game other developers will look at for "goods", and "bads". Give DB and FDEV their credit for being the first to try, to lead the way, and to be the ones brave enough to walk the minefield. Everyone else will pretend to be brave yet follow, and claim to be 'pioneers' by avoiding FDEVs fails, and absorbing successes.

Lol, I'm really far from defending the game and moan my fair share, but when a post starts with

you can't expect to be taken seriously :D

The game HAS shown a steady drop in players with a small blip at 2.1 release back to pre 2.1 numbers now. Its funny how the usual types chime in to insult people who have a different view of the game, kinda reminds me of the orchestra on the Titanic playing away merrily while the ship does the death-roll :) Player numbers have dropped steadily, no matter how you dress it up.

The way the game has " Progressed " in the last updates, has ruined it for normal run of the mill players, no more can you enter a fight with a 50 / 50 percent of survival, Hostiles have 100 % better weapons, and no matter what you do or how you dodge, you are dead.
Looks like the end of the road for me, pity, as I really liked the game, but its no longer any fun.
With a bit of fine dodging and luck, I may last till the end of the week, after that, this commander will be forcibly retired.

Elite is currently a grind hell that is mind numbing boring and is just not what a game should be.

There are arriving titles like No Man's Sky, Star Citizen etc that appear they will blow them out of the water. Star Citizen is far deeper and contains much more content even in its early stages.

So what's your guys opinion, do you think Ed has a chance in the same pond as these other titles? Personally, I'm calling it an officially dead game within a litte over a year.

No, need to disagree.
Elite is not dead ans wasn't dead. Maybe for your playstyle it isn't matching but that's not the games fault.
Secondly, yes there are a lot of complains right now, because as usual FD pulled the slider in another direction too much.
For some its awesome now, others (like me) moan a lot and FD is good advised to tweak two more times to hit the balance.
3rd Star Citizen is out now? Finalized V1.0? Did I miss it? So don't talk about a beta(?) state game. Its nearly all subject to change without notice.
4th Elite might no have the deepness of x or the action of y. But in its way its unique and is bringing still fun to a lot of players since 1984.

Regards,
Miklos

Maybe we need an "Elite is DOOMED!" mega thread with a suitable clip showing Pte James Frazer uttering those immortal words? Since people insist on posting the same thing every week for a few years now, it would save some work.

It would be really nice if all of the "I'm personally bored of the game, who's with me?" people could just do the healthy thing and (I realise this might seem like a radical idea after 2000000 hours of gameplay in the same boring, dead, unfulfilling game) take a break and come back when you're not so jaded...... and here's another radical idea - do it quietly without seeking affirmation from everyone else that it's ok to be a little bored of a game after hundred of hours.

Elite will not die simply because the systems, frameworks and tools they develop to simulate the entire galaxy will go on to form the basis for their technology platform and enable them to develop many other titles over time.

Frontiers IP will be the basis of their success and E : D's continued development and expansion will be the sweet long maturing fruit.
