Engineers Question for the Devs.... Can you respond to the issues that have been raised on the forums?

Not asking for a fix date etc.…. just that the issues are known and you will be addressing them
This may go a long way in helping to relieve the frustration in a lot of the player base.

Storage for cargo / modules
AI issues (not the skill level) but the excessive interdiction's (example 5 jumps and 4 interdiction's with no cargo)
AI use of engineer weapons and upgrades ?
Excessive grinding for materials
Roll the dice for the upgrades

all but one of these questions have been adressed afaik

- Storage for cargo / modules: yes, will come at some point (at least for modul storage, i think that was the 2.1. launch stream)
- excessive interdiction's: known and will be adressed (if it isn't yet), see various Q&A answers
- AI use of engineer weapons and upgrades ?: see here https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=257892
- Roll the dice for the upgrades: there will be some kind of "call a favour from an engineer", at least for special effects. see newsletter last week.
- Excessive grinding for materials: FDev is looking into the spawn tables of polonium, which are off for some people: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=260243

Not really sure this answers what people are truly curious about. Reducing one particular element of the RNG roll series does not equal re-thinking the mechanic. Same for Polonium, sure they will check into the spawn of this material, but they have not said anything about rethinking the overall random nature of looting.

I would be interested in some feedback from the devs on this too. They have been suspiciously quiet lately so I have a feeling they must be discussing this internally. I think many players are patiently ignoring the Engineers update for the time being, seeing if anything will be done with the material gathering grind. If they confirm that nothing will change then we can at the very least make our peace with it and choose to stay or leave - at the moment I am still hoping it can change which is keeping me hanging around :)

From the reply to 2.1 issues:

If you have any specific update regarding the Engineers, the material gathering or any other changes, be sure to add them to the Engineers forum where the team will be reviewing and reading.

The Polonium issue thread is the only reply in the front 5 pages of Engineers Discussion so far

PS What happened to "we'll be removing the very common materials to simplify the types" from Beta?

The same will happen as has happened with the previous releases and accompanying issues.

Nothing.

They will say, as ambiguously as possible, that they are working on 'it' and that 'it' will be fixed/added/altered at some undetermined point in the future.

They will be very excited about 'it', and 'it' will be awesome, but they won't be able to tell you anything about 'it'.

I realise that sarcasm is allegedly the lowest form of wit, but I feel pretty low after 2.1 was inflicted on me.

OP was asking for answers, i was just pointing out where they have been already given. and that's why i was writing "all but one of these questions has been adressed" in the post you have quoted.

we don't have to like those answers, though.

So TRUE !

Why wasn't this looked at before going live? Could fish, used as a means to obtain upgrades during beta, be the reason they didn't notice storage would be a major issue?

- excessive interdiction's: known and will be adressed (if it isn't yet), see various Q&A answers

Thanks! That's good to know.

- AI use of engineer weapons and upgrades ?: see here https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=257892

This was fixed pretty quickly, thanks!

- Roll the dice for the upgrades: there will be some kind of "call a favour from an engineer", at least for special effects. see newsletter last week.

No offense, if I wanted a casino-like experience I'd go to Vegas. "some kind of favour from an engineer, at least for special effects" will not fix the problems currently plaguing the RNGineers.

I know you said the "OP was asking for answers, i was just pointing out where they have been already given." but perhaps the OP was already aware of the newsletter and wanted a more thorough response. I know I sure did.

- Excessive grinding for materials: FDev is looking into the spawn tables of polonium, which are off for some people: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=260243

See above. See below too.

Same for Polonium, sure they will check into the spawn of this material, but they have not said anything about rethinking the overall random nature of looting.

Not to be flippant, but answering the question "what time is it" with "turnip", does not really count as an answer. In the same way answering the question "will you change the amount of RNG involved in looting" with "we will look at the polonium spawn rates" doesn't really give much meaning to us.

I do agree that the AI issues and storage have been adressed though :) However Frontier have gone completely silent on their intentions regarding the remaining high levels of randomness in the Engineers mechanic.

I hope for changes for 2.1 stuff rather re doing the crafting and some of the looting.

But their history with stuff like this isn't good. For example power play haven't have any changes and its now over 1 year from its release. So i would say that they won't comment/address issues in 2.1

Ding ding ding..

Give the man a cigar.

This is the issue. Its time to get people involved in the decision making BEFORE it is made. Them doing it on their own isn't working. The DDF was a good tool. USE IT.

This reminds me of when my 6 year old walks up and says: dad, dad, dad, Daaaaaaad, dad, dad, dad, dad, dad, dad, dad ,daaaaaaaaaaaaaaad....and won't stop until I look at him and say what. Nevermind that I was in the middle of making his dinner or something....you know, just busy taking care of his welfare. I figured anyone who had learned to login to a forum and post a thread would have matured past that phase...learn something new every day.

I'm sure it's easier to change some values than it is to completely overhaul a feature.

Is it hard to ignore all the stuff they fix/change/improve that we discuss here. It seems like it would be hard. I guess if you focus really, really hard on just one or two things that they haven't made major improvements to, you could do it, but that would be exhausting.

I am curious about FrontieRNG's response. [noob]

I doubt they'll go back on the design choices they made, but I would expect a serious overhaul of the drop rates and mission rewards, and bump up the tier 1 modification effects just to make the experience bearable.

But Fdev's history in this is pretty stubborn. They didn't change the magically disappearing purple circle on planetary landings and they have a habit of using RNG as a crutch rather than a tool.

It's not all bad, on the flip side they did fix Unidentified signal sources by giving the player information as to what they may be getting into before dropping out of supercruise.

Your ad homiem has contributed nothing to the thread! Congratulations! [praise]
