Vive tracking issues in Elite? Other VR games don't lose tracking for me.

Just thought I'd throw this out there and get a feel for what other's are experiencing.

Vive owner.

Pre-2.1: Besides the usual 'graphical' stuff which we know about with the Vive. Tracking was perfect and I felt the game was highly playable. Spent many hours in VR.

Post-2.1: Vive tracking as been terribly erratic. VR goes gray (tracking loss) on a semi-frequent basis. I was losing tracking every 10 minutes or so with no apparent cause. I end up having to throttle down or exit Elite completely. Then on SteamVR I select 'wake up base stations', and wait. It will sync in a few minutes, then I can continue playing. Some 10 minutes later.. again. Tracking loss. Here is the caveat. I got so frustrated I quit Elite and played other VR games. Two hours later. NO TRACKING LOSS for the other VR games.

Any ideas?

Do you have a base station aimed at your monitor?

Interesting idea. I have a base station behind the monitor mounted on a floor-ceiling pole rather rigidly. Its up near the ceiling facing down roughly 40 degrees. The opposite side of the (small) room behind where the chair is, is the second one. Essentially when in a seated position typically one base station is in direct view of the HMD. The other is blocked by the chair back.

I'll try covering over the monitor with Elite running. See if things stabilize.

If it continues to be a problem, I thought about re-positioning the base stations so that two are able to see the HMD more clearly rather than one, that way they can back each other up more readily.

Yeah, typically if a base station has line of sight with your monitor, or any moderately reflective surface, it'll goof up the tracking constantly. If covering the monitor seems to fix the issue, reposition the base stations to be on opposite corners rather than directly across (if you can). Also, position the rear one in a way where it's facing more toward the floor rather than toward your monitor.
