No you misinterpreted.
I think you're underestimating the impact of the encounters with the only non-human sentient species we as a human race have ever encountered. To put that on any level below 'venturing into space, discovering there are planets other than our own, etc' is a bit ridiculous.
It wasn't some war against alien weeds. It was our only interaction with alien life forms with technology in many ways superior to our own. No. That is not relegated to pffft. Whatever history. I'd have an easier time suspending disbelief that it was all part of the plan to suddenly have dozens of entire sectors permit blocked off over night.
Sigh, the original Barnacle on Merope 5C just lost half its spikes due to human commander gunning them down. Interestingly enough, his fire was directed to the normal ground position, not up in the air. Even more unfortunately, he did not answer my chat question where he sees the Barnacle. Obviously not a scientist :-(
I can keep this instance open in Mobius for another two hours or so, if any member of Canon could join me for some proper scientific work, I'd be grateful.
Update: A more helpful human commander came around, he saw the barnacle on the ground while I saw it in the air. While testing with driving through it, the thing came down for me, and with other commanders nearby, reproducing the bug does not work. In short, f.s.c.k.

Nobody's saying they're not known about and just ignored - but it's an ignomious part of our history - we started and ended that war badly.
The chances we'd want to go into detail about it are minimal - and they are not the only intelligent species we've encountered, just the Empire wiped out the other one. IIRC the thargoids also had more peaceful relatives - there's always good chance that it's all kept quiet on purpose.
Anyhow essentially you initially claimed there'd been a massive rewrite of history - perhaps, but it's been done inside the game world not outside. These things are all still game-fact
Fantastic! Is there anywhere one can read details about this? For instance a detailed reasoning about the two versions of each letter? I have never seen any details, just repeated claims it contained "Stylised Morse". You are the first person I find who actually posts details, and I really would like to understand the UA sounds, so I can record sounds and repeat the analysis.

Here is a thing. I did not see this on the Wiki. But as i was smuggling stuff in to a station ( go me! ) I was watching my heat then realised... what if you got your heat REAAAAALY high at the merope star? I mean... like SUPER SUPER SUPER high. with the UA on board of course. (while in super cruise) and see what happens? maybe the UA is a beacon. And then when you get your heat to a certain temp the aliens on the other side might pull you in to there area or something? Maybe do that when your heat gets really high in warp.
