Engineers Do we need a scrap button, and a workbench

I am having fun with engineers, but yes the grind is long, and the rng can be cruel if you only have one shot or two. I believe this is still the best update yet, the AI is much better now, and for me even as a trader seems to be evenly balanced.
Now i know Frontier are unlikely to change much in this update, they do normally stick with what they make, and then add small changes and tweaks.
But i was thinking about when i played Fallout 4, and the crafting system in that game, where the idea was similar in that you upgraded and modded your weapons for more damage, longer range, better ammo capacity ect, in that game you wandered around the world collecting items from dead guys, or sometimes laying around, and you had a scrap mechanic, anything metal\wood, tables chairs ect could be scrapped back into the materials needed to make it.

You had a certain amount you could carry before heading back to your bench. (you had many of these in settlements ect) and offloading them into storage there. At your bench you could select all the mods for the weapons you had, and if you had the nessacary mats, ( and high enough level) you could upgrade it.

A full explanation of that system is here : https://www.vg247.com/2015/11/17/fallout-4-weapon-crafting-guide-3/

In the case of ED, do you think this type of crafting would work, and be better than now.
Our bench could be the engineers stations, and we could have a mechanic for collecting wreckage, scrap, (breaking it down to basic ingrediants) and destroyed ships parts, along with the present methods of collecting.
Instead of RNG, we could visit engineers, and choose the upgrades available for our present modules in that ship, and build them if we have all the mats.

Now i do like the engineers crafting game, yes i have seen all the negatives, and i agree with some of them, overall the game is much better for it though, but it does need some changes, would the scrap & bench idea work well for you, would you be happier with this type of system.
feel free to comment below with your constructive ideas, or if you like this idea, or disagree.

I was just pondering myself that it would be good to have a scrap merchant under contacts, like the black market, where you could sell your junk for small amounts of cash, or pay to combine lesser junk in to higher quality stuff that the engineers can use, that would reduce the grind and make irrelevant materials relevant again, plus the highest quality parts could fetch an almost decent amount on the scrap merchants market, so that once your ship is upgraded, it is still worth grinding if you feel like it and combining mats into better saleable mats as a way of making a bit of cash.

Yes that would work i think, apparently there is already a dealer going around in an Anaconda trading needed commodities, but unfortunately no way to trade mats, i think this is needed to improve the game.
