Engineers POLL: I want to see a live stream showing FD personnel playing to unlock Didi while having FUN, do you?

YES, I WANT TO SEE IT TOO

Why? Because I think they'll hate the grind just as much as the rest of us mere mortals do.

No, it's not something you're going to be doing on the side and which will get unlocked without you even noticing. To achieve it at all you will need to deliberately go for it, and doing that is even more dull. There's no win situation here, this is Zynga level of game design. Except there's no way to pay to make it better.

Exactly one of my points... no "just play" will get you a single modification before even unlocking the engineer (200 t brandy? ;) )
I would like to hear from even ONE player that has achieved a lvl 5 FSD-upgrade by not deliberatly looking for the needed materials....

So can someone confirm you can deliver the stuff in portions or do you HAVE to deliver it all at once?

I really think it's the former, as I believe the rares stop spawning at some point when you have collected a certain amount of them...

None taken, it was bit of a tongue in cheek comment really ;)

It's Friday and I've had a really tough week, apologies!

How would you hand in all at once if it stops spawning after 10 - which i think is the normal spawn when the Lave System is not in distress ( War or anything - like it is now ) ? :)

ps. i really think they should give Didi some Water Man! ( Didi Waterman - still giggling ) ^^
i can't imagine shes ever sober at this rate :p

Cheers!

Crack (Onion- heads), Alcohodidi's, Gold plated ferengish Trader's on a Rest, Fer-de-Love flying Nutjobs with Guns, Farseeing Grandma's ( Glasses anyone ? ) ... It comes to mind: Are all the Engineers actually Nutjobs ? :D :D

HAH! Nutjobs i s the first reasonable explanation as to why all their modifications are so random....

What if the request was for 5 different rare beverages? It would still involve running around for hours, but would at least:
Make some sense.
Not be mind numbingly repetitive.
Be something achievable by someone who just wanders about as part of their normal play.

nice idea , but do you carry around rares or commodities around all the time just because you will someday need them? im getting interdicted all the time while only carrying some engineer materials (worth less then 1000 cr) by elite FdL and other combat ships...
would work only if storage is implemented , so you can drop of if you are in the region...

Indeed people are different, that's why you shouldn't tell them to play the game your way.
Ýou like to just fly around, I like to feel a sense of accomplishment, a reward for the time I invested in an activity.
That's why for me Engineers is not a very fun addition to the game.

'Just don't play Engineers then, do what you allways did.' is what you hear a lot on these forums.
I backed this game based on the vision presented at Kickstarter, so far it falls short in my eyes.
All the updates have added so little activities that I enjoy that I'm starting to lose faith in the project alltogether.

Reading all these complaints is no fun for anyone, especially for the wonderful people at FD, but I sincerely hope that they wake up to the fact that a lot of people don't like the direction development has taken.
Of course I could just go play something else, but the promise of this project is just to big to give up on.
Elite Dangerous could be so much more, so much better.
I don't tell anybody how to play, people suggested FD should do it the way they wanna do it and I just tried to tell that FD would probably not do it that way but diffrent.

Really don't see the fuzz, its bascily a CG for one person where you can take as long to finish it as you want. Sure when it only gives 1 or 2 brandys at a time it can be a bit annoying, but thats the BGS doing its work and even when it does something annoying its kinda great that it does something :D

Braben sees thread, reaction ensues.

If my way of playing is wrong then perhaps FD or you should do a live stream to demonstrate the right way to play. Clearly all of us here are just doing it wrong, right?

Play how you want to. If it gets boring maybe you need to change things up a bit, but as I said it's your choice. I play to have fun, and have fun I do. If I try something I do not enjoy, I do not do it. Simple.
Waiting for rares for example. You have your two bottles, it may take 10 minutes for another 2 to turn up. It seems to me that a lot of people are just sitting there doing nothing while they wait for the bottles. Why not do some missions, or do something while you wait for the other bottles to appear. The choice is yours to make it as tedious as you want to. I really cannot get my head around why some people are complaining so much.

Some people are saying that the hate the engineers and are not going to play anymore. WHAT. We didn't have them before the update, but they were playing fine then. If you don't like the, don't use them, the game is perfectly accessible without engineering mods. I haven't got any yet (I will do in time, and I know what the engineers are like as I was beta), and playing the game perfectly fine without them.

But if you want the upgrades and want them ASAP, like all games with crafting you will end up grinding. But that is a choice you make for yourself. The game doesn't force you into it.

Collect as you go... yup. let's see what we cant safely do while we are collecting brandy unless we take a detour and drop it off
1. Explore. you really want to cart around tons and tons of extra weight..
2. Any form of combat. Get an unlucky spawn and get blown up. Yup brandy is all gone now
3. Use a hauler taxi.. cant fit that much in one
4. Fly a combat ship lower than a corvette.. Need to go drop off the brandy first before you do
5. Trade, well all that brandy uses up space which could be used for profit

The whole exercise is *preparing* to have fun, rather than actually getting on with having fun

The selling point of 2.1 Engineers was that you could mod your ships with special abilities...If they told their potential buyers that these Enginner modifications were locked behind a very time consuming grind

How is that any different from the main game? You have to 'grind' to get better ships as well. So were Frontier misleading people on that front as well? of course not.

I don't know of any other game which has a crafting mechanic where you don't have to grind to get the resources to make things. (without buying items from online auction houses etc.) At some point you always have to put the work in to get something out. Even if some of the materials required you source elsewhere you still use your virtual currency to do that. And that virtual currency also comes from other things that could be considered a 'grind'.

If you think ED is all grind then you are playing the wrong game. Its not a grind if you are enjoying the experience, of you are not enjoying the experience then Elite isn't for you because this is what fundamentally Elite has always been about.

We do need some limited cargo and materials storage and certainly module storage. That I think most people agree with. I have been destroyed with valuable commodities on board, but the fight was so good, even though I lost, I really didn't care. It is called Elite Dangerous for a reason. Risk is part or the game. What do you want Elite Not dangerous.

Getting larger ships. Elite gives you multiple ways of obtaining the credits to get them, so if you don't like one way there are plenty more if you fancy a change. Engineers only gives you the one option. Materials treasure hunt, followed up by stacked RNG in which you hope you get something better than you had. Big difference imho

Out of interest. what other MMO games DONT have an auction house that allows you to trade materials OR don't give you alternate ways of getting them?
