hi, i could use some help deciding on a load out, and ive not been into deep space with an SRV

My exploration trip is aimed at approx 6 months casual play somewhere near beagle point and then west as far as i can get until i'm ~3 months in.

i realise im going without an AMFU but i've done fine without one previously but i cant decide between the two loadouts below... do i take 2 SRV's or 1 thats the main question;

if the answer is 1 is all i need (can repair on surface and i'm not a lunatic driver), then i can fit bigger shields for the "unknown" and still have a 4A fuel scoop

if its 2 then i need to compromise on Fuel scoop or smaller shields, i think id prefer 4D shields tbh given the new Ai and take longer scooping.. 3 mins from empty to full though

Depends on your style really, i did DWE in my DBX and am currently on my way back across the western regions of the galaxy, so actually pretty similar to what you are planning

I went for 2 SRVs, simply because i'm a Rock Rat and our shenanigans are dangerous =P As SRVs aren't replaced anymore, like they were during DWE (few days after i set out again -.-) it depends on how desperately you need one. If you collect enough jumponium in advance and don't care too much about exploring planet surfaces and are very careful at that, you might be good with one.
I compromised with the shields and went for the bigger fuelscoop, so in my routine which is Jumping in - honking - scanning the star while fuelscooping and checking the system map, that works perfectly as when i'm done scanning the star, i'm usually filled up as well.

As for the dangers that might await... well i hope i will be home before that and i am not sure how severe they will be but you might wanna consider getting some engine upgrades for example, to enable you to at least run away just in case.

if you plan such a long trip, take two srv. because things happen... and you'll not have a SRV for the next 50k ly.

i would definetly got for the smaller shields, if you are nervous, put 3A instead of 3D --- they are not that much heavier then 4D.

for safety - i returned after 2.1. via a high security system, with a station close to entry point, where i refitted my exploration vessel. after hat i sold my data to engineers and at other places in the galaxy --- no problem. if you want to be even more safe, you already put a cobra (or courier with enhanced thrusters) into that return station, before you set off.

enjoy your trip! i love the DBE - but i only use it for trips around 30k total (because no AFMU).

i have currently been running bi-weave 3c's doing combat in the bubble while gathering mats, i have not died yet vs the new ai as i know when to run, and only pick on the small fish who interdict me, and ill be taking 4a thrusters, so i might take the advice and take 3a shields as the 3c bi weave are a bit like a lettuce leaf covering the hull ATM

i went the other way, and engineered my DBE... now it can outboost NPC (4A thrusters with level 3 dirty drive tuning + L3 charge enhanced 4D powerdistributor).

I've only 1 SRV and that's not been replaced on the present journey (6mths - must be 86kly).

I shouldn't have said that, of course, as it will spontaneously explode when I log on tonight.

yeah think i saw your screenshot of 399 m/s boost?

i may go back to felicity and get a dirty thruster tune up, might just be a level 2 given my material list though, same with Power dist

the power distributor isn't THAT important, 4D is fine for outboosting. and out in the black it won't be important at all.
