Community Event / Creation Authors of novels please read !!

Ok been thinking what to do about your books on Elite Forever because your Kickstarter pages will be disappearing soon...

I think there are Nine books to consider and not all of you have your own websites but of course i would still like to help supporting them...So i did have an idea to give each book its own page linking to your website if you had one..

Below is a small demo of what i had in mind....Please note for demo purposes only Drews page works....So have a look....click on the "Elite Reclamation" image ...and then you should get the idea of what im thinking..

Its only an idea so let me know what you think ?

The design forum will have a writer's section for those that want to use it. It'll also provide access to the fiction documentation. If we want a more private area for writer's only that can be arranged.

Michael .... How am I meant to access this writer's section when you have specifically told me I can't join the DDF?

I doubt you'll make the forum visible to non-members because then what is the point if everyone can read your design ideas that people have paid £300 to have exclusive access to?

The writers forum can be within the DDF and an individual can be given access to it without seeing the DDF content.

That is assuming this forum is vBulletin, it certainly looks like it.

But if someone has a writers pack don't they also have DDF anyway?
No, one of the writers pack was a consortium of authors.

The person who pledged for the book will automatically have access to the DDF and the author section, the other 14 will not.

However, I believe permissions on forums are straight forward - set up a branch and assign the appropriate group to it.

I think a few of us anthology authors pledged enough for the DDF, but for the ones that didn't Kipper should pass on any relevant information as technically he'll be credited as the editor of the anthology so it'll be his head on the line if any things amiss - no pressure Kipper :)

I will do my best to pass on information that I'm allowed to pass on, to those that need it!

Hopefully any other anthology authors that made separate pledges to the DDF will help me by sharing the load on that a bit :)

to be honest, I think it's easier for everyone if I just bow out of the anthology book.
It's things like this that get me angry about the DDF.
It's as if my opinion is not good enough just because I could I couldn't afford it.

So on that note, I'll save Michael a ton of hassle and not be a part of anything that invovles the DDF, and this includes the Anthology.

Sorry but wouldn't the obvious solution be

1. Create the writers area separate to the DDF and this way all the writers in anthology that did not personally pledge an amount of £300 and above can still access the writers area.

2. Allow DDF people also access to the writers area.

Problem solved.
-Writers can see it (surely not all 15 of them are in the DDF anyway and they should have access to the writers area after all) :)
-DDF people can see it too.

win-win........................ or am I missing something obvious here ? Apologies if I am. :)

PS @Alien I hope you stay in as a writer.

EDIT: Added the PS

Might be worth considering that the dust has only just settled from the Kickstarter. Plenty of time for the logistics and implementation of stuff. If certain methods won't work for some people, I'm sure there are ways it'll get worked out.

The whole process is very tricky, carrying 25,000 Kickstarter backers and forum enthusiasts all the way is a tough job. I once took over a hobby forum from a previous set of administrators and was told keeping the user base would be like herding cats and that was for 3,000 participants, not 25,000!

So perhaps we can all take a little time to let the Frontier folk sort out how they want everything to work?

EDIT - Love the page Synchromesh. Looks fantastic.

I hope not Alien. I think people are giving the DDF forum too much creedance and not giving the general population enough. Just because we're not in the DDF section does not give our opinions any more or less weight and it doesn't mean that the Frontier chaps are going to stop reading our ideas or listening to our opinions. From my perception the DDF is very much going to be a case of final decision voting but I also get a real impression that there is going to be plenty of transparency to the rest of us with what is going on. There will be a little 'us and them' but to be honest, the one that gets me more jealous are those that have had the funds to get into the Alpha and Beta sessions. I have enough trust in DB and Frontier that the game will be as good as they can make it, I just want to get my filthy little mitts on it ASAP :D

Like Styggron said, it makes sense to have the writers part of the forum separate from the DDF and to give those that are taking the lead the access to do what they need to do. I get the frustration Alien, I really do, but don't back out of this, it's your passion and you've done so much for it so far, follow it through, we're all looking forward to the end product!

Agree with Steve. Think carefully about any decision you make Alien, it would be a real shame if you decided to back out.

I'm also not a member of the DDF and to be honest even though it would be nice I get the feeling that information will perculate down to the rest of us.

This. As far as I can imagine, just think of it as a smaller, more focussed forum that will be easier for Frontier to control and manage strictly to get to the best ideas and develop them. You've seen how many threads and opinions there are on this board already compared to the last 6 years, it would be impossible to do here and there are only going to be more and more users as time goes on.

I'm certain that ideas from here will make it across to the DDF section too, a good idea stands on its own merits, regardless of who had it. Likewise, the resultant decisions will I'm sure be published here as just soon as they are finalised - or probably before.

It's just that rather than FD having to hire additional manpower to sift through all the threads here, they've cleverly allowed people to pay them for the privilege of doing so.

Since I will be in there because of my Writers Pack pledge which was only made possible by the backers of that project, I be will doing what I can to try and make sure those voices are heard; even if its by proxy.

This looks good.. a nice central placeholder for all the books.. I also want to have a forum section for the books here, so people only have one place to check on all their investments.. Michael will you be making separate sub forums for each title and giving the authors admin rights so they can keep some of the pressure off you guys at FD? Would be nice if possible...

I think the real problem is people are posting new threads about stuff that should wait until the DDF is set up and then that is where it should be.

People are asking questions, and there is nothing wrong with that, but the things they are asking are way way WAY too soon to get any real answer on.

If Michael keeps the writer's section/forum in the DDF, then I'm out of the Anthology book. I won't accept relying on others for information to and from the DDF.

If Michael makes the writer's section/forum separate from the DDF, then I'll stay in the Anthology book provided I can access the writer's section/forum myself.

I was going to set up a separate site and forum for the anthology authors and hopefully extend invites to all of the Writers Pack holders; since I sold pledges for non authors to look in on it to see the creative process happening and share opinions etc.

Michael has since told me that it should be possible to accommodate the anthology authors and these 'guests' into an official writers forum, which is great news. If it becomes not possible, I can go ahead with my original plan, no worries.
