What's with Microsoft trying to buy everything? Do they want to take over the world or what?
The nature of capitalism since the economic revolution of the 1980s has been that growth is the objective.
Companies must seek to maximise profit from all available sources.
For companies the size of M$ and many others, that means they have to buy up other companies and apply the same principal to them. It's no big deal really, just another day at the office really for M$ and others like it. We don't hear about most acquisitions simply because they don't attract news. Occasionally, one, such as Linkein is quite well known.
Incidentally, the scope for expanding and improving Linkedin is huge. It is frankly, a useless piece of garbage at the moment, which survives simply because it has become customary for almost any company to check if any other company or individual is on there.
A pretty clever move by M$ really. It can appear to be busy with very little effort, since the improvements are for the most part, a no-brainer.
