Got a EVGA 1080 superclocked card today - runs great w/ CV1

$669 at Fry's. Not entirely sure what the difference between this and the Founders Edition is - didn't research it, just drove to the store and picked it up when I heard they got it in. I've only spent 5 mins in-game with the CV1 and this new card. Butter smooth with SS 1.5X and EVERYTHING maxed. Need to research what I can/should downgrade to play at SS 2X. It's a totally different experience from my 3 year old Titan - everything is so much crisper and clearer. Me likey!

how's the performance in combat zones or res? my g1 gaming 1080 goes as low as 65 fps if there 5 or 6 ships on screen shooting at one another.

Exactly what I was wondering so I headed off to an ice field RES. I'm not sure how to check FPS in VR, but I did notice micro-stuttering with everything maxed and 1.5SS - using only ED settings. So I'm guessing I dipped below 90. I turned shadows to medium and may have tweaked one or two other values, and it seems nearly perfectly smooth when surrounded by lots of ships and fast rotating balls of ice. 2.0SS has too much stutter for my taste in that environment. I haven't played with values using the Oculus app/GUI that some refer to - have only played with ED in-game graphics options. Will continue to play around with and report back.

Edit: Here's what I found. If I set the graphics setting to "VR High" in the graphics menu (which is a high default setting, but not maxed out) AND I adjust the pixel density to 1.5 in the Oculus runtime tool, I get very smooth gameplay in the ice fields with lots of NPCs. If I set pixel density to 2, I get judder. I'm playing with pixel density vs. in-game super sampling as pixel density provides MUCH, MUCH higher quality results as previously reported by many. All text, for example, is almost completely blur-free. It's amazing. I have a feeling, though, that this improvement in quality may have come with a performance hit that exceeds in-game SS - but haven't tested this yet. If others are getting better results with 1080 cards perhaps my CPU is a limiting factor - it's the only thing below spec: a 3570K quad core with a stable overclock ay 4.5 Ghz.
