Server side change coming in and some good news!

The first change coming in the server updated will be local news articles at the Engineers bases to help direct players to locations where they will be able to source the materials they need. In addition we will be increasing the amount of materials you can hold from 600 to 1,000. We will also be increasing the amount of Data you can hold from 200 to 500 units.

Alongside these changes we will also be making some adjustments to the requirements to unlock a couple of Engineers. Specifically, we will be reducing the required number of rare goods on them down to 50 tonnes. We will also be adjusting the availability of rare goods in the galaxy slightly. States will still change the allocation of rares but the numbers are more favourable than previously.

I think we may have a reason to smile as explorers

That seems like a step in the right direction as well.

The change seems to be online already

Unfortunately, I read this as rare goods (aka. commodities like lavian brandy) rather than rare materials (such as polonium). I hope my interpretation is incorrect. I would love to be able to find some polonium. Any polonium. At least 2 bits. I've been looking for over a week... well past tired of looking...

ah...I am going to have a steep learning curve when I get back to the bubble...

Same here buddy. I just stopped by the bubble but didn't give myself time to check out any of the recent updates before leaving again. I should be coming back in less than a week, so maybe I'll check it out then.
I like what I'm reading so far, though.

The learning curve is not that bad, IMO. But the combat learning curve is :) You will have to do some missions, mining and pew-pew stuff to get the materials for engineer upgrades. And also the pirates can be quite nasty, especially if you carry stuff in your cargo bay. I already lost an Asp and Type-6. Both were two-shotted by pirates in Clipper and FDL.

Well, things change.

My ship exploded in deep space for no reason. Unfortunately I was alt-tabbed looking at a screenshot and did not see the cause. Too far out for pirates. No planets in the system, no stars close. Been sitting there adding systems to my bookmarks for a few hours and just suddenly dead. So if support can't fix the issue, I guess I'll be finding out sooner lol.

Sorry to hear that, and just in case you haven't done so, for alt-tabbing try and use borderless rather than full screen mode - it allows the game to still be up when you're alt tabbed, so you can see what's going on. Especially nice on multiple displays, but I'd use it even if I was on a single display. You probably knew about this, but just in case..

Hope it gets resolved, in any event! Hopefully you didn't just run out of fuel and suffocate or something :)

As for reducing the required amount of rares for some engineers (200T of Lavian Brandy to Didi Vatermann would not have been fun), as well as boosting our material / data capacities, all I can say is that while you can fault frontier for this or that, they do listen to the community, more so than some other developers, so good on them. This welcome change definitely makes it easier to breathe when collecting stuff for engi upgrades.

Yeah, I've been playing borderless since day 1. Always keep at least 50% fuel. There is literally no reason for my ship to have exploded. I wasn't even in supercruise. I can't log in to support to send a ticket via my account; it gives me a "not authorized" message. I can't wait 72 hours for something to be done, this is ridiculous.

I might just bite the bullet and go out and check this stuff out tomorrow.
