recommended weapon loadout for a cutter?

i finally got my cutter yesterday and i loves it. unfortunately i got blown up by a master fer de lance after i messed up submitting and couldn't escape

i have 3 D3 turreted beam lasers and 4 F2 turreted multi cannons fitted and they did absolutely no damage to the fer del lance as it proceeded to wipe the floor with me (obviously staying behind me like glue and couldn't budge it from that position).

what weapons might you recommend me to fit to my ship so that i may have a chance of fighting back in the future if i cannot escape?

thanks in advance :)

Mines, I have all mines on mine and when I get interdicted it's a trail of explosions behind me. Wonderful to see too. I run a trade cutter BTW.

If two large beam turrets weren't even scratching it's shields, it must've been popping scb's like no tomorrow. I run 2 large & 2 medium pulse turrets on top, much greater longevity than beams capacitor-wise, I've taken elite fdl's out with pretty much just these (post-1.6). Underneath I've got huge plasma and a pair of torpedo bays, pretty much reserved for big fish, though it is fun taking potshots at small ships with the plasma :)

1 huge gimballed pulse laser
2 medium turreted burst lasers (wing tip mounts)
2 large gimballed multi-cannons
2 medium seeker missiles

Pretty fun combat loadout. Large multis do a butt load of damage, and those burst lasers are always on your target. It's quite effective.

Weapons not needed.

Not worth the time lost earning profits. Just boost and jump away.

Weapons only decrease range and use power.

Besides, your opponent will most likely die of laughter just watching you try to turn the thing around...

Trying to fight an FDL was your mistake. Sure, it can be done, but why bother? The risk/reward just isn't worth it. So your potential gain was what, maybe a 100k bounty? What was your re-buy?

The decision to fight was the wrong one. Submit and jump away. If you get interdicted again - High wake out to another system.

If you really want to do combat in a Cutter, practice first in an Anaconda, then outfit the Cutter with max shields and armor. Then think about weapons.

Unless you are confident in your ability to recognize when it's time to cut your losses and escape successfully, combat in a Cutter is just a good way to lower your credit balance.

you need some basic faoff if you fly a cutter in combat.

boost - FAOFF - turn around - face enemy before he disengages...

i run huge and large gimbal mc, large burst turett and two medium burst turetts, and two medium seeker missiles. with a a class ahield and a small (class 5) scb.

what might not go down in this setup while shieldtanking FAOFF backwards, can't masslock me.

thanks all for the replies :)

i had no intention of fighting the fer de lance at all,i just messed up on submitting and was thrown into the 1,000,000 spin cycle when i got thrown out of supercruise. i couldn't escape it and had to try and fight.unfortunately it slaughtered me.

i have now A6 shields fitted (had B6 shields at the time) and 4 a class shield boosters (i did have those fitted at the time).

i am definitely going to buy some mines for my ship now as that sounds like a great defense actually (as all the a.i now just stick to your rear,a welcome surprise for them ;-)

i always try and run if possible, but sometimes you just cannot and i would like to be able to try and defend myself in those situations.

Turrets that can sustain fire with 4 pips to shields is the strategy I use.

I have 2x Class 3 turreted pulse lasers, 2x Class 2 turreted beam lasers, 1 x Class 4 gimballed multicannon, 2 x Class 1 seeker missile launchers.

As has been said above, using Flight Assist Off and turning to face the enemy while flying backwards is a key tactic with the Imperial Cutter.

Darn similar to mine.

Huge pulse, two large multi, 2 seeker, 2 burst turrets on pylons

I call the build Monster

Multiple firegroups, 4C/G Beam Laser on the Huge hardpoint, not used much, typically only to finish off when the Powerplant is dead.

The turrets takes out Elite Anaconda's, FDL's and Python's. Occasionally firing the SCB. Modded PP, Distributor & FSD.

Haters gonna hate.

Just killed a dangerous FDL in a wing with 2 imperial Eagles with my Cutter, and I'm an average fighter. This ship is very capable.

Haven't fought in mine yet, rigged for Trade currently. It does have two Adv. PA's on it, but I had to put them somewhere! Plus the green plasma matches the Prismatic glow...

I used all seeking missile racks, I would drop out of supercruise before NPCs managed to Interdict me and put it in reverse. They used to work ok but didnt do much to shields, I used these in 1.5 so they must be much better now after the buff.

Besides there's nothing like taking out all of a dropships weapons and watching him try to fight the security service.

There's been two loadouts I've used and like in the past

1- (Currently in use) 3 Large Turreted Pulse, 2 medium turreted beam lasers on top, 2 medium mulitcannons on bottom

2- (Previous loadout) 2 Large Turreted Beam, 1 large turreted pulse and 4 medium turreted mulitcannons

You won't outrun an FDL unless you have some serious dirty drive mods. Especially if you want to focus on trading, submitting instantly and then jumping works every time if you do it right. Use 8 A rated shield boosters and you should be able to escape anything if you jump to another system right away. When you're in Supercruise, keep 4 pips to System and 2 to Engines. Boost as soon as you get dropped out of sc, select another system to jump to, boost again and hit jump as soon as the quick cool down is finished.

Every pilot needs to master defense before becoming good at combat. It's not unlike learning how to drive a car. The first thing you need to learn is how to stop or you'll find yourself in trouble very quickly. Once you know how to stop correctly every time, then you can give it a bit more gas...

Yes - you can defend yourself and kill other ships in a Cutter - but it's an awfully expensive re-buy to use a Cutter to learn on.

I know you asked about weapon loadout, but do you have the A thrusters? They make a world of difference when using the cutter for combat
