Made it back from my first trip to Beagle Point today...what a blast. However I almost ended it feet from the finish line with some bone head move. Found this T Tauri system about 6k from bubble with a nice close rock. Decided to commemorate the occasion with a selfie.
As you can see I had to zoom away, which of course meant reverse thrust on my setup....going to change that. I lift off, point up and throttle up, hitting boost (as I have done hundreds of times) but alas my throttle was still set to reverse from the selfie and I crashed backwards into the planet violently. Lost shields and 20% hull in a blink. Now down to 71%, I took some screenies of the damage once in orbit and safely headed home feeling foolish I almost blew the trip.
I know this is more about the ship than my trip but something else I noticed during the trip was a gradual increase in burn residue around leading and trailing edges on the ship as if all the jumps or scooping caused a build up of residue. I couldn't be 100% sure till I got back to a station and did before and afters. Never noticed it before I used the Orange...makes the streaks and burn residue really stand out.
Dirty
Clean (after repair all)
