Exploration & NPC Pilots/Ships.

Hi All :)
.
I was 'out' exploring a few days ago putting my Commanders name on a few undiscovered systems in my DBX. I'd just jumped into a system and seeing it hadn't any Commanders name on the main star or any of the other planets etc. I began a detailed scan.
The System is roughly 900Ly's from Sol btw.
As I was scanning a small gas giant in the system I noticed a marker for an unknown signal source, I thought it a bit strange (I've very rarely come across these this far out from the bubble), so I investigated.
I dropped out of supercruise and was almost immediately witness to a nearby explosion. There was quite a number (possibly 30?) of containers showing up on my radar, plus about 4 or 5 npc ships milling about.
The ships were designated 'Rescue 1, 2,3, 4 etc.'...One was an Anaconda (Rescue1), another was a DBS (Rescue 3), plus an Asp (Rescue 5) and so on.
.
A message came up on the contact menu which basically said they were investigating a wreck (I think it was either an Imperial Cutter or Clipper by the wreckage that remained).
Some of the containers were labelled 'Personal Items', plus other assorted commodities I think. Anyhow, I didn't pick any up as I'd got a fair bit of exploration data recorded...and I wasn't exactly kitted out for any sort of prolonged combat!:D
I'm just wondering if anybody else has experienced this npc behaviour recently. I realise 900Ly's isn't a great distance from the bubble, but I haven't come across this activity before in 'exploration'. :)
.

Yes, I've come across those before, both in the bubble and outside. One of the usual USS scenarios, most commonly you'll find a wreck with a data cache in it. Once beyond about 7KLY, they disappear completely.

Ah!...I see. Thanks for the reply Wolverine [up]
I was tempted to pick up one or two containers just to see what the reaction of the 'Rescuers' would be :D...if I'd been in my Cobra I might have ;)

I am around 4,500 LY away from the bubble and occasionally I encounter USSs that usually contain either a small or a large data cache and always marked as illegal salvage. I ignore it as I don't need the extra mass but I'm wondering if there are any USSs out there with anything more interesting that a data cache (like needed engineer materials)?

I've never seen one like that so far out. Usually it is just the Data Cache.

You are doing the right thing... especially if you have a long range fit of your ship <ie... tissue paper for a hull and no weapons>.
"Any" cargo coming into the bubble makes you a target for those NPC's pirates and increases your chances of interdiction.

Haha, oh yes it is tissue paper for a hull and no weapons. I never do combat anyway, even when in the bubble, although I may indeed add some extra hull to be able to escape interdictions. :D
