General / Off-Topic to the people of the UK

Whatever you decide today. Whenever you are angry about german politics (many germans see it the same way) please know "the Krauts love you" ;-) I will visit your great countrys again no matter what.

And I will visit your country again too. I spent 3 months working in Bavaria many years ago and it was beautiful. :)

Can't get the time off work to go and cast my vote so for me the whole stay or leave thing is a moot point. I just have to hope those that do get chance to vote have thought things through :)

That sounds... illegal. :( surely employers have to let people go and vote!

It's par for the course for my employer unfortunately. Last year I did jury service, it's a legal obligation for them to cover wages while an employee is on jury service, they still refused.

That's the trouble with very large companies, once they get to a certain size, employment law means very little :(

It means you haven't pursued them correctly. Have you tried the citizens advice bureau?

PS you can always apply for a postal vote.

Could you not have gone before work, or after it? I'll not make it to vote until pretty near the closing time.

I also visited your good county once, by coach......the coach had an extremely slow FSD. :(

Flimley.

This has become increasingly common. I was doing a job for a company, in a primary school, which involved drilling a hole through a wall. The wall was asbestos. I was covered in the stuff and stopped work immediately.

I checked with the school to see if the wall was listed in the Asbestos register, but they said they didn't know what that is. When I reported to my employer, as required by law, the boss of the company sacked me and refused to pay me for the week. (It was a Friday).

Went to a solicitor who laughed in my face, claiming he'd heard these stories before, I messed up, got sacked and was trying to take revenge.

Got a similar response from the HSE who claimed the employer had warned me and I had ignore the warnings.

Sorry to go off topic. Here in the UK, worker's rights are essentially non-existent unless they benefit the employer some way. Seeking to enforce what little we have invariably results in being accused of making trouble.

You must work some long shifts ! .. polling stations have been open since 7am and will close at 10pm (and if you happen to be in a que at 10pm you will still be able to vote.)
