Orca as a distant worlds ship?

Nice to see I am not the only one ... I've been saving up for an orca since I first drove my SRV across my first moon (so not THAT long ago;) ... Why loom around in a rusty industrial metal box if you can explore, in style. Pack a couple of SRVs, upgrade what you can, and off you go ... sitting in your whirlpool, a martini in one hand and the remote control for the scanner in the other.

I admire the courage of taking an Orca out exploring...I'm figuring I'll be able to afford to buy one myself when I get home from the trip I'm preparing for now. Got some computer parts coming in today to get my laptop to run Horizons (well, it "runs" at 0.5fps right now, but I'm below min RAM...I'll be at recommended RAM later today), and then I'm downgrading my Clipper for exploration duty (my old DBX just can't cope w/ Horizons exploration any more if I want to keep my small shields, an SRV hangar, my scanners, and an AMFU :( ). Like someone else said...if you're going, go in style ;)

Its an awesome idea and I love the idea of ditching an ExploraConda for something a bit more decadent, its a brilliant idea. Repped and watching your adventures closely.

RIGHT ON BROTHER.

Now you get to enjoy the glorious view from your reclining, heated, cooled, massage chair made from the finest imperial slaves.

and what a glorious view it is, it reminds me part of why I liked the Eagle so much.

Has anyone taken one of these whales to an engineer yet to see what the max jump range is yet? I may sell the conda and use an orca instead :p if I can get the jumps up closer to 30ly that is...

20-25 is enough to comfortably go into the Core in Style... that's something. :)
If I remember correctly, the Gin Palace suffered a serious accident on a planet's surface and never made it very far on Distant Worlds... I seem to remember there were "Beer and bits of Jacuzzi for miles across the planet's surface"...
Here's a picture of my Orca on an exploration trip. Never had such a disastrous accident, but then, I did not go further than Barnard's Loop with it.

You are correct, it was a catastrophe. Finished the trip in an Asp.

Haven't tried fsd upgrades on the Orca but managed to get my corvette range upto 25.8 if I go for a super lightweight build, I expect the Orca could match that.
