Horizons Absolutely love the ground base assault missions.

Not really much else to add, however recently i have been giving them a good seeing to after not really dabbling with them much since launch.

They are great fun and I can imagine there is a lot of stuff Frontier can do with them which i hope to see in the future

(jail breaks with high speed chases to our ships - a bit like the amazing smugglers run on the ps2 era springs to mind).

I will certainly be doing a lot more of them, and they pay fairly well too (1.3 million for a fairly easy raid on a low sec base for instance)

ALERT! INTRUDER DETECTED. Negative feedback cascade compromised!

they are loads a fun, your only wanted with the faction base your attacking, as soon as you jump from planet, no wanted status.

Careful with the +++ bases and if the system security level is medium or high too, expect a headache.

Thanks for the clarification. Still, I hope there will eventually be a bounty hunter friendly variant of these missions against, say, pirate outposts.

There's sooo many different base layouts/configurations in 2.1, it's crazy! Haven't seen two alike so far. Some nasty little surprises in some of them too, even the low security ones. If you hang around too long in your SRV, sometimes Stingers launch up out of the ground and come at you in groups!

high security ++ and +++ are quite ineteresting to raid if you have friends bring them to help it speeds up the process

but I assaulted a base and there were some air patrols so I took out the air patrols and the second I did. the sysem authority vessels showed up could anyone help me out what did I do wrong I want to take more of these missions.

This crap is pretty stupid. I got a mission to attack a base which had air patrol, no big deal. What was a big deal was after blowing up the air patrol ship, and one turret, a        g federal corvette spawned on the base's side - a low security base. Bullocks. There is no way to get these missions completed if there is air patrol around.

I just discovered these missions and like them quite a lot too. If you are able to take all data security towers offline and then download from the data towers you can make quite a bit of credits. On my first mission I got around 650k for the data package and another 110k for the mission itself.

I haven't done some real base assault yet, but I'm doing some "destroy generator" and "destroy skimmers" missions and they are fun, still from ship there are only 2-3 ways to deal with defences and on SRV is a suicide.
I'll do more of them in the future, since I'm not a really good dogfighter and doing only transport missions become boring pretty fast.

On every mission that I've had with an air patrol, the ship left after a few minutes. It's annoying to sit there and wait it out, but they do leave after a while. Not sure about the ones that are landed on the pad, but the patrolling ships have all left for me.

I like them too, I only wish we had more options/tools to do them.
The fragile SRV we have for example is totally unsuited for these kind of operations.
I hope in the future we will be able to sneak in on foot too :).

Actually, only a few bases I have assaulted spawned continuously air support.
I believe the air support is somehow some kind of planetary security vessels which generally do not show up.

As for the few times it happened to me, I managed to take down dat fat anaconda, land and scan all data points on time while the re-spawned air support unleashed hell on me.

The synthesis -> repair stuff is your friend and don't forget to dismiss your ship! If your SRV gets destroyed, you still keep the data you scanned...but if your ship does, it's a different story :)

My biggest complain about base aussault is that a lot of time your SRV gets stuck, for no reason, and you must self-destruct. When you then spawn back in your ship, all defense of the base are back and you must start over (but you may have low missile ammo, low hull, etc...).
For this reason, I tend to simply land from a distance, launch SRV, scan ASAP, done...boring...

I haven't had a problem with these missions. They're lots of fun. If there are ships around scan them. If they're not system security they'll leave eventually. Also if they aren't system security they wont attack you in the srv for raiding the base. If there's a ship on the landing pad that one will attack you as soon as you trigger base security. Also there are two different types of defense turrets the big ones wont attack your srv, they only attack your ship, so land about 2km away and drive in before starting your attack. The ground based turrets are easy to take out. Use the turret mode on your srv to take out targets, your accuracy is way higher. When you're done get clear of the base... almost 3k or more so the big defense turrets dont attack your ship when you call it back.

I absolutly hate ground assault missions, for 4 reasons:

- we are driving an explorer ground vehicle which is not really made for it.
- the damn clock when we scan is a pain.
- we have no gadgets on the SRV (shield cells, chaffs, stealth)
- we can't know what we will get as materials in the end (never found any embedded firmware yet)

it's a pain that most missions requiring kill of X skimmers, send you to a base having less than X of them -_-

this issue there is with the wording of the mission, base skimmers are not the only ones to hunt, and indeed, arguably are not the correct ones to go for, when you can find illegal skimmers which are wanted which also count for the mission, out on the planet.
