Update 2.2: Hire a QA DEPARTMENT

I'm sure they do have a QA team.

I've worked on dozens of corporate software implementations and the number of times I have seen QA teams flag up stuff that is not fixed in time for "go live", would make your head spin. Don't blame QA, they have a challenging enough time as it is.

I support the OP. Not that they don't already have QA, of course they do but I don't want to be seen as dissing every jab made at FD.

However, make sure you don't hire OP.

Hi,

If you would like, check out our Cambridge Vacancies page here: https://www.frontier.co.uk/jobs/cambridge_vacancies/ - Feel free to apply for the QA / Testing positions, regardless of it being on the site or not. We'd love to have you join the Quality Assurance team that is quite active and responsive to issues that arise.

QA not only checks the forums, but they also are monitoring for bugs raised by Support, bugs raised by the community team relayed from you guys (social media), internal bug reporting, validation, testing, regression testing, this list goes on and on.

I only see one thread made by you in the bug reports forum - QA has it tagged as investigating. To what i assume is that they're waiting for debug and log files. :)

I think it's very unfair to point blame at the QA department. For all we know they might identify 99% of all bugs and yet someone high up (be that David Braben or Michael Brookes for example) makes the call to release with the knowledge that those bugs are still present. In fact my gut feeling tells me that's exactly what happens. Whether that's the right approach to take or not is another matter.

I'm impressed, I wondered why this thread was temp locked, and on a weekend too. A bit more info on how the instakill bug got thru the process would be interesting.

Some members of this community appreciate FDev for the time and effort in making this epic game. Some members have nothing constructive to say other than rant rant rage rage.

I'd say alot more but the mods are somewhat keen around here.

I work in QA, pharmaceutical as opposed to software, but they are similar in many respects in that we get the blame from the weather to the Middle East crisis and the UK exit from the EU. In QA you can never win.

FDev has got one of the better QA departments in the games industry.

I'm still impressed how fast that truely gamebreaking purple ray of doom bug was found and fixed.
Many other companies would have rolled back the change and taken their sweet 2 weeks to get it fixed.

Maybe not the best decision to roll such a major change out on a thursday before the local beerfest and a long weekend :p but then again, in the last 10 years I've had so many projects dropped onto my desk right before summer vacation where neither the project owner nor the majority of the technical support team was available, I've almost accepted that as "industry standard".

Personally in my book, yes there are bumps and flaws and bugs, sure, but they are at least compared to a lot of other games in my book, small.

This post nearly made me choke as I guffawed into my coffee cup........STOP IT!! (underlined the best bit for you).

I did not have a single reason to complain about the QA departement since I think 4 or 6 months post initial release (before that, it was a mess) : honestly, cannot take the OP seriously, especially since there are several other things one could blame FD for.

"Frontier are not currently considering candidates from Recruitment Agencies, those who wish to work on a freelance basis, or those who wish to work from home."

I would apply, but I see you are not allowed to work from home... it will be one hell of a morning commute From Cape Town (South Africa) :p

To be honest with you Brett I'd take his post with a pinch of salt. The amount of hate you guys have recieved since 2.1 was released has been out of order. The vitriol and spite I've seen since has really given me a new perspective on this community.

For the record I happen to think that 2.1 was the strongest update you've delivered yet, warts and all. I feel for you guys at times given the hate you get, its mostly unfair, and I say that knowing that I'm not shy of having my own rants etc..

It's pretty safe to ignore the OP, as he is what we like to call an "Armchair General". I really, seriously doubt if he even plays the game that much. To be honest, I think he will be another one I'll be adding to my "ignore" list.

As for me, Brett, I think you and the gang are doing a *fantastic* job, & the game is moving forward very nicely (aside from that one NPC that just let me shoot it ;) ). I just played for about 8 hours-on and off-and it was *fantastic* and loads of *fun*!!!
