Another failed attempt at growing.

Tried taking an artifact to Merope 2A with the hopes of "storing the location data."
Took it to back to another free floater Artifact in the same system i picked up the first.
Let it scan me to "transfer the data." No unusual behavior noted.

So then thought might as well take both artifacts to merope star and jettison. Again both behaved normally.

Oh well next time maybe haha

Edit: Next I think I see if i can find some sort of a trigger that will set off the Artifact on the planet to drop its payload on the ground. Need to think more about it, might need meta alloy involved, the location on the planet could of been a factor, maybe even need to try connecting an Artifact on a planet with an Artifact at Merope star by having them deployed and transmitting at the same time? Too many things to try not enough time haha :)

I think you are doing it wrong, I mean:
have you tried to just drop the UA in the ground first, and then plant your ship like the one in the wreck?? preferible on an anaconda!! hehe

I doubt this would do anything, but anyone taken a UA near the Merope 2a Barnacle with the Farragut overhead ?

Can you elaborate? I wasn't aware of any commodity changing UA behaviour: AFAIK MAs are related only in that they repair UA damage to stations, and I don't remember SAP8 containers being confirmed as being related at all.

Hi RW

MAs & SAP8 containers are both commodities I believe (in that they can be sold at stations, and are carried in the ship's hold rather than the pilot's materials personal stock)

1) MAs affect the UA degradation effect, either by Palin's theory of distracting their self-repair mechanism or ( to me more likely) by acting as a physical shield against the fireflies which are actually causing the damage effect (I believe this is a more plausible theory because I recall that MAs were carried together with an UA in a ship's hold & it still suffered damage, implying the UA/fireflies have to be surrounded by MA to provide the shielding effect)
2) source of the SAP8 effect is the Unknown Artefact wiki (http://elite-dangerous.wikia.com/wiki/Unknown_Artefact) which states under Tests Done "Tests with the UA next to 8, 6, 4 SAP 8 core containers
Interesting result: the number of purrs (after the howl, after the morse chitter sequence) changes from 5 to 3 purrs with 8 SAP 8 Canisters nearby. More tests required to verify if this is an effect of SAP 8 specifically, or canisters of any kind? Will 12 have more of an effect? etc.[citation needed]".
I vaguely remember this SAP8 effect being reported in an early subthreadnought but don't think anybody continued the experiment.

edit: same wikia source Timeline of Events "27 June: CMDR Kerrash talks about various things, including Thargoid conjecture ("They are coming"), and that the UA and confirms there is something to it, and that "if any people watching have got in with the UA thing and got halfway in and not looked into it anymore, please pleeease carry on looking, there is something there, there is an interesting secret there, please look, and the SAP 8 containers as well, there is something going on, dont give up!" Seems also to imply SAP8 might be relevant to UAs

i logged off after 3 hours of unsuccesful wait for that damned convoy 4 to appear.

and ..

nothing... they won't spawn anymore.

and you call this.. FUN ? -_-

Scooping should be done by a CMDR with a Corrosion resistant cargo rack from Palin, just in case the decay rate is much higher than usual or the probe itself decays quickly.

props to CMDR WHOEVA

For people having trouble with screenshots, I highly recommend: https://getsharex.com/

Once you set it up you can press a button and it will automatically upload it to Imgur and put the direct link into your clipboard.

Happy probe hunting!

If memory serves, that information on the wiki about the SAP8 containers was inaccurate, or at the very least not reproduced by others. However, it's a bit of a moot point, as the containers themselves have vanished - since Horizons, I think? They used to be appear in relatively common Founder/Elite missions, but then those vanished, and so did the cans. I'm not sure about the Trinkets of Hidden Fortune, but I haven't seen those either.

Also, Raist's advice is quite good. The probe itself might even decay very quickly - that would certainly explain the scenario where one commander reported having scooped one, but it vanished from his hold.

A reminder: all you need for the resistant racks is an invite from Prof. Palin, you don't need to unlock his services (via providing 25 unknown fragments). The racks are available not through mods, but through Outfitting (like the enhanced thrusters), which can be accessed if you can land at his base.

Or just be simple and have Meta-Alloys in your hold. Wont decay at all then.

I did it yesterday actually. Nothin happen.

Were the original UA not quantity limited such that we kept running them out by the end of Monday each week and then reappearing the next week?

Could it be that these first finds exhausted the 'stock' for a while?

So. I'm sure I read somewhere that Felicia Winters is ex-Sirius Corp. A while ago there was a CG to look for wreckage of SS1, following which the escape pod of Jasmina Halsey is found, who is then sectioned in a hospital on Mars. After a time of her being at said institution, the Federation see fit to deploy Farraguts to guard the Barnacles in Merope, for no given reason other than 'just because'...and Federal convoys are found carrying Unidentified Probes on the very edges of Sirius space. I have a strong suspicion that Felicia Winters (or possibly INRA? Are they linked too, who knows)learned something from Halsey, whilst dismissing it as the ravings of a mad woman publicly, has developed the UP's using the information gathered...and is now attempting to use them in Sirius space to find...something. Winter (or Winters?!) is coming indeed.

Felicia Winters in Sirius AI controversy...you heard it here first!

I appreciate the thought, my consideration is that, not all planets have rare materials. Using the surface scanner might be a way to eliminate planets without those elements. If the scanner provides an indication of areas of concentration, (a hope, not a certainty) then rather than flying down endless canyons in the hope of luck providing us with the thing we seek, we can at least increase a little the possibility of finding them.

Did I miss something? The surface scanner now shows regions where certain elements are likely to be found? Was this always the case? Is this shown in the planet zoom in the system map?
