Congratulations happy we have another step. This does look like a cross between UA and Barnacle.
Try taking it to a Barnacle maybe this is what makes a barnacle.
Definitely a seed in sure of it

Maybe it simply is not robust enough or was damaged enough to cause it to disintegrate when the limpet attached itself. There is no reason yet to jump to the conclusion that it is bugged!

Yes, it was down to 33% or lower already. A minor scrape on the hull could have been enough to polish it off.
I will be using limpets on mine (touch wood), MUCH safer than my lumbering fat fingers.

When I watched the video I assumed as much, the two heads seem to be different sizes, although this might be a trick of the debug camera.

BTW, your avatar, I am sure I have seen it somewhere, but after racking my brain-cell for weeks, I cannot place it. If you do not mind, what is it from?

CONgrats!

Maybe the limpet is still having issue with other CMDRs in same area?

Also I see Frontier went all out on a new model. =p

So is this an evolution of the design?

Artefact => Probe

We woke them up, now they are "getting busy"?

Maybe it will bifurcate?

That Frontier just split the head and stuck it back on kinda makes me think it might be intended to indicate this is where they come from. Otherwise surely you'd do something a bit more... fancy? Though labeling it probe?

But then again, I guess once you start asking about the naming you inevitably end up wondering how the ship figures out what it's called in the first place.

No debug cam trick: the two heads have different sizes, color is orange and not blue/green, the 7 markings do not light up, only purrs no howl.

can't help thinking one half of that thing looks a bit 'swollen'.

I thoroughly agree with earlier poster (sorry, I don't go back in these threads - only forwards!): get a UA with it.

Perhaps the probe is looking for an artefact :)

I think purrs are morse message. I've extracted some from it but sound is not clean enough. it's something like:
.-.- -. -.- - ..-. --. -- -.-. --. -. GOD DAMM SCREENSHOT SOUND-. -. .- AGGHHH KEYBOARD -- -. wth is it? -. --. --. - --.. -- -- -.- -. MY EARS DUCKING CHAAAFFFF
You need to watch it in slowmontion, at least 0.5x

I got really lucky with the signal source, a npc pirate was after me at the time and opened fire on me as soon as I dropped out of SC
The convoy turned on him and I noticed the python being attacked by 2 apc's. The Pirate drew the other ships away breaking up the convoy into two groups and I was able to hatch break the python and scoop the UP in relative peace
thank you NPC pirate! :D

that's a bit genius actually

Wow! Nice one guys!

First thing that comes to mind... We missed something in the original UA. Now it's a different color and two heads joined together. If someone can root the image out, I actually did this before thinking it was a clue. I lined the opposing sides of the head up and blended them. I'm on holiday atm so can't help much (gutted)
Maybe someone can find that. Always suspected we missed something here...

Gypsy.

It also suggests a tactic for future assaults on these convoys: Have a designated collection ship, and a wing of four "aggressors". All enter the USS, the aggressors fire on the collector to trigger the convoy response and then flee in four different directions to draw the escorts away, and then the collector goes after the python.

Variant: One collector, one hatch breaker, four aggressors.
