Elite Dangerous is not a sandbox

It's not meant to be funny. I merely maid a reference to the darker side of human nature. Not talking about it doesn't make it go away you know.
You know. If the forum was about WWII I would agree with you. But this is Elite Dangerous not a madman who killed many people. Sorry.

Posting in visitors messages to tell me to grow up is still not cool.

So I can't reference to power hunger in at thread concerning peoples want to rule the world?.. Oh well.

Is it ugly in reality? Sure.

I knew that referencing humans historical obsessions for ultimate power and world domination would upset some people.
Just stating facts people. It is meant as stark sarcasm.

Maybe you could of picked a less recent figure to make your point, how about the "Little Corsican" as another just as relevant to your point?

For a second time. ED will be more of a sandbox when it launches than eve was when it launched. And after 10 years of development, ED might be more of a sandbox than EvE is now. ;)

If you have played EvE from the start, you can easily understand that.

I agree with this statement if Elite Dangerous goes on dedicated servers and allows 50k players to be in the same universum simultaneously.

Its not an opinion man. If you have played EvE online when it launched, its a fact.

Also, I don't think you understand how EvE works. It is also instanced heavily, with different server nodes used for a couple of systems or even for a single system (Jita supernode). Each node can hold a certain number of interacting players (stress testing in EvE with the current dilation feature set shows a little more than 4k players per node is possible with 10% time dilation, even more if they are not in battle). Both games feature a one shard universe where all players play at the same time. ;)

You really don't want to know what happened in 2003-2004 EvE when a lot of players were in the same system at the same time...EvE has been in active development for more than 10 years, even trying to compare it with ED @launch is not really a straightforward process. Its like comparing a grand strategy to a high reflex RTS.

Dude, there is no comparison. That's 4000 players in one node in your example versus 32 players in Elite Dangerous.

And I'm not even talking about the fact that currently in ED you can't even message the person next to you.

Exactly, all I'm trying to tell you too is that you cannot compare them. There is no basis for comparison.

The reason there are 4000 players in one node (each experiencing crushing 10% time dilation) is that EvE online has one second server ticks, making flight as well as most mechanics a point and click adventure. In the case of 4k players btw, its not a point and click adventure...its a click and pray adventure..xD

Also bear in mind that to cram those guys in one node CCP has actually developed one the best game server clusters in the world. Read the following, its a very good read if you are into EvE like me.

Lastly, you have to understand, ED is not EvE with cockpits, never was and never will be. Elite is Elite. You are trying to assign attributes to a game that does not need or want them. ;)

We're still going with this huh?

A: Well, in EVE we can do these things.

B: This isn't EVE

A: Yeah, maybe not... but in EVE...

B: We don't want it to be EVE, we want the game we backed.

A: Great point, but in EVE...

Good grief.

Eve clickers want Eve in all things. They want everything to be the clicky spreadsheet with ships that they know and love.

If another game doesn't implement their way of doing things, it's obviously incorrect and must be fixed immediately.

Combine that with the infinitely high sniveling guildie factor, and it's clear that everything not Eve must be made into Eve, or the whole known universe will divide itself by zero.

Some peeps just can't accept difference. That's quite tragic. Open your minds people, there are new experiences out there - and you'll see them only if you take the blindfold of stubbornness off.

I fully agree with this, but it was you who compared Elite Dangerous to EVE and it's sandbox elements.
