Help, I need Ship Rats!

yeah ... but those are always occupied ... what about the other guy inside?
You can sometimes get Damaged Escape Pods as a mission target. That and some duct tape should be reasonably safe.

Update: Average uptime after loading the game is about ten seconds. Going to have to rethink this.

Hmmmm, this is fast becoming a 'Black Hawk Down' situation, only without the Somali militia & Ewen McGregor
I can see how the ship's auto-recall might have failed, these canyons are deep, narrow and far from flat...I'm reluctant to recall myself now, I'm going to take a drive along the canyon floor, see if I can find a way up/out.

We could do with aerial support TBH, we've already got 3 commanders down here without a ship.
Someone in the air to find a bearing/way out would be helpful

I'm driving along a 0 degree bearing, see where that takes me.

Then I think you should try the opposite direction from what Bomba had initially planned - there is no way out in that direction.

What way is that? LOL
Local comms are down - as above, I'm headed 0-ish degrees

It's kinda nice down here once you adjust to the darkness

GalNet Update
Title: No Good Deed Goes Unpunished

Thargoid Incursion? Space-time displacement? Hidden Pirate base?

Your guess is as good as ours but the Pilot's Federation Shipping Authority is urging Commanders to stay out of the vicinity of PRAEA EUQ GK-Y B30-0 as several ships have reportedly gone missing or suffered severe system failures in the area within the past 24 hours. The situation started with a distress call reporting a Commander trapped on the surface in his SRV after his ship failed to return to his location when recalled. It was initially believed his ship perhaps crashed on the treacherous landscape of the second planet but the real reason may be far more ominous. Now several other Commanders have also gone missing after initiating a rescue operation and jumping into the area. Comms from the rescue team have been distorted but seem to indicate massive ship system failures as well as ships phasing in and then back out of existence. Can any of this be believed. Is this perhaps a new attack by the Thargoids or a Witchspace breach into normal space? So far the major powers have taken no action nor issued any statements. Stay tuned for further details.

After several attempts to climb sheer rock and one spill which knocked over 30% off my SRV's hull, I decided to risk all and hit the Recall button.

Never so beautiful a sight.

I don't know how Bomba managed to survive out here for so long.

I've tried climbing canyon walls before, it never ends well - at least your ship recalled
I'm going to try to find a way out of here and report back...Tarrakis Out!

I made it over the ledge (in height) ... 300m above the ground in the SRV ... missing the ledge by maybe 20m horizontal distance ... it looks doable. I'll try again, but need to quit for the moment. Hope to catch bomba and the rest of you tomorrow (or later).

Haha, this thread is the best read I've had in these forums in a long time! Keep it up guys!
May the galaxy-gods at Cambrigde take notice and help you out/pan out the story even more ;)

Several dead ends reached in the SRV or the way out is simply too steep. I eventually found a large enough flat area that I was confident wouldn't confuse the auto-recall and my ship landed fine, so I am now airbourne again, however....no man left behind n'all that....so I'm doing an aerial survey to see if there are any viable exit routes for Bomba to take to higher ground - it's not gonna be easy though dude, the canyon is 5km deep.

An easier option might be to get back to the canyon floor and find a flat & level area for a LZ/meet point, using the SRV's radar zoomed out to see more surface features at a distance you can more easily navigate in the darkness.
