When the call to return home becomes too much

and your eyes turn Sol-ward.

You feel you need to sing a melody...

(to the tune of Homeward bound: https://youtu.be/7z9wd9bS1FM)

I'm sitting in my srv
Got radar blip in front of me
On a tour of mesoderites, my ship and cargo is out of sight
and every rock is quickly scanned for arsenic and polonium
Bubble Bound
I wish I was
Bubble Bound
Fuelum where my air's escaping
Fuelum where my beer is cooling
Fuelum where my soap lies waiting
Silently for me

Every day's an endless stream
Of Metal Rich and HMCs
And each star looks the same to me, the M class and the T tauri
And every piece of space I see reminds me that I long to be
Bubble Bound
I wish I was
Bubble Bound
Fuelum where my air's escaping
Fuelum where my beer is cooling
Fuelum where my soap lies waiting
Silently for me

Tonight I'll post my thoughts again
I'll play the game and pretend
But all my scans come back to me in shades of mediocrity
Like an emptiness of Antimony I need someone to refuel me
Bubble Bound
I wish I was
Bubble Bound
Fuelum where my air's escaping
Fuelum where my beer is cooling
Fuelum where my soap lies waiting
Silently for me
Silently for me

I really need to quit exploration for a bit, I think I'm going a little peculiar.

+1 vRep for you....

And you can change the tense in the last line and remove the entirely superfluous 'little'...

Only problem is that once you're back in the bubble the itch to go out there again starts immediately. ;)

Ain't that the truth....was back a couple weeks from months long trip and already headed back out to hit some "near-by" Nebulas I have been meaning to see.

Confused - my ships are equipped with 'Civilization Repellers', their effect decreases as the amount of stored exploration data increases. At some point, they become so ineffective that they allow me to travel to the bubble but, as soon as explo data has been sold, Repellers come back on-line and kick me back out of the station, pick a random line out to the black and fire up my FSD...

I'm really must remove them or get a transfer to a ship that doesn't have them fitted so I can do some of that Trading malarkey in the Bubble ;)

What is this "call to return home" of which you speak? Maybe I'll recognise it should I ever be unfortunate enough to be afflicted by it.

The last time I returned to the bubble I meandered round the edge for ages, reluctant to go back, doing random things like trying to find a system exactly 1,286ly away to take a picture of Sol from and trying to find an untagged HIP star near the bubble (did both).

Promised to help SEPP once I bit the bullet and landed, then promptly left the bubble about 24h after Kancro started the official thread in the player groups subforum and I've not been back since.

I hear your pain, Cmdr. Sadly, the truth is that there is nothing in the Bubble worth your return journey but I know that if you feel that you need to go back then you will. Remember though, that the Dark is a cruel mistress. She will not let you rest easy in your space port bunk. She will have you up and out in no time at all.

Once Jaques Station is up and running again I don't think i'll ever go back to the bubble haha

This song isn't entirely apt, but I happened to be listening to the chorus as I read this comment and it pretty much sums up my opinion of the bubble...

If this is doomed to fail then I would rather burn

Of course the song is very much tongue in cheek, but there are times after you've made the decision to return that the journey back can become a bit of a grind. In some respects having Jaques pop up helped a great deal, as it gave me a major goal that broke up the 50-odd thousand light years I had left to go.

Now I've got 20 thousand to go and it turns out I'm on the right side to get to Maia, without passing right through the bubble, so I can buy some meta alloys for the Farseer engineer lady. I can get those, sell enough exploration date to get to level 5 influence (is that how it works?), upgrade the 'conda, help out SEPP by selling the rest of my data with them and getting involved in the CG.

Buuuuuubble bound....

I love the song! :)

And after having let the message settle in I am glad I have the Distant Worlds Expedition in reverse planned for the return journey...
