Engineers Palin makes me sad..

Ok so i decided to start my 5k meander, to unlock palin, bought a asp kitted it out so everything is grade D mostly, got around 41ly jump which is a nice change from my python. The problem is i hate this endless jumpping, I mean i made the 1k marker no problem, but then it took me 3 days to log back in. Just finished my 2k jump and im thinking it will prob take me another week to get back to doing some thing im really not liking or enjoying. Really hate that im forced to do this exploring crap, if i want grade 5 dirty drives. Its kinda funny, that after all the drama from engie patch, skynet taking over the world, 200 brandy, getting jumped with a cargo hold full of engie crap, that the thing that is making me lose any will to log into the game is a aspect that isnt really about the engineers, but a condtion that forces me to explore. Ahwell more of a whimper then a bang i guess.

I'm not a fan of exploring either but I made 5000LY in 1 hour and 20.. in a 50LY Conda (Then accidentally died and didn't have to make the return journey since it still counts).. Just a thought ;-)

Glad to know that works, I was planning on doing the same think in an Asp with a grade 5 FSD mod. this guy is the last on my list of Engineers as a grade 5 Dirty drive on a Cutter vs a max Grade 3 isn't that much of a boost and may mess with my power and heat management.

Baffled as to how OP's jumping is 'endless'. I'm out exploring at the moment in my Asp which has a 43 LY range thanks to a level 5 FSD upgrade, if all I want to do is get somewhere fast (i.e. not taking the time to scan anything other than firing the ADD) I can jump 1,000 LY in under 20 minutes.

I did this in an asp it took probably an hour ish, at which point I immediately self destructed - it was a bit gamey for my taste but exploration is the only element of ED I genuinely dislike at its core so i figured the best entertainment was suspending realism briefly to get it over with as soon as possible.

Me, I'm not baffled at all.
But then again, I'm a person that can feel empathy. [yesnod]

I explore the inhabited bubble.

For this, I can take a fully combat capable ship and collect bounties and materials while I scan inhabited but unknown systems (fuel and jump range are irrelevant in this mode). They are everywhere in the bubble.

I won't be making long trips outside the bubble again until I can have ship launched fighters. I get stir crazy flying something that can zip through a canyon.

EDIT: Silly me...this is about collecting fragments not exploration data, nevermind.

Cheer up.
By the time you have collected 25 UFs, and then the all the different firmwares that you need to progress through Palin's levels, you will look back with fond memories on the short trip that you feel forced to take.
Or you could get a nice L3 elsewhere?

I went 26k light years in 9 hours 36 minutes. In a Hauler. With no engineer mods. The same ship can go 5k in well under 2 hours. And then you can self destruct to get back if you really want to because it's a Hauler. It's cheap. (Mine isn't, but that's because I stuffed it full of A rank AFMU's.)

It's possible to go very far, very fast, fairly cheap, if you use the right ship and build.

Wish I'd remembered the AFMU. I completely forgot to install one. More fool me.

I'm a mere 5200 ly out but my cockpit is at 50% and I'm all out of duct tape and chewing gum.

Don't forget the repair kit.

When I put my long range hauler together I completely forgot about installing one and I've got myself into a bit of a pickle.

I didn't really need them for repairs on my A* Challenge run (I made a small repair to my life support, because I didn't want to trust that it wouldn't malfunction if I let it get below 80%) but that's not why I had them.

Heat damage is distributed over all your systems. So A rated AFMU's soak up heat damage that would otherwise go to other systems, and with high integrity they can take a lot of it. Just having them makes your ship more resilient against heat damage... and they add no mass

This has got to be one of the easiest and fastest requirements to meet. I mean....seriously, think about the other requirements (mining, combat, trading)....heaven forbid you find any of those slightly distasteful, it'll take you a lot longer than a measly hour or two.

That's interesting to know! I went on a small (1000ly) experimental exploration foray (never been one for it to date) in my clipper and decided having read advice to get an A Rated AFMU.......did the travelling and was "expecting" to have to use some of its ammo to repair things given all the "wear and tear" posts I had read.
Was wholly disappointed to see that all my modules remained at 100% (yes I know only 1000ly but hey) - but given what you have outlined perhaps that is the reason and indeed before I do this 5000ly stint I should indeed refit it.....(I had contemplated missing it out this time around! :))

Can anyone please tell me if we get a message once we travel >5000ly for Palin.
I've got the invite and am flying out to a 5000ly waypoint now. Be good to know when I can turn back and start playing again.
Thanks [up]

You can check how far away you are in the exploration statistics. Palin seems to update his distance in incremements of 50LY. I also had to logout and log back in after traveling 5000 LY to get his invite.

funny thing found myself enjoying exploring after a while, i guess it was when i took the time to look around, scan some planets and land. Any way been back for a while and just finished unlocking palin today,

Palin makes me happy :D
