Death within Elite.....

Can someone in the know tell me how death and dying within the game is handled please.

I play EVE at the moment and the way they deal with the issue (I'm sure you already know.) of death is through the use of clones.
Is this or a similar game thread going to be used in Elite?

Normal mode: automatic escape pod to a station in the event of ship destruction. Escape pods cannot be destroyed nor captured. Get a new ship like your old one from insurance company (if you have enough credits for the payment) or a starting ship.

Iron Man mode: Dead is dead - finito Benito.

There isn't any death. You're immortal.

You escape in an indestructible pod 100% of the time and receive a brand new ship on arrival at your next port of call.

You can only die in Ironman mode (just the once), and upon that death you can reborn into normal mode and become...... immortal.

Will the escape pod also get an animation? Right now the ship just blows up and you "respawn". But it would be awesome to actually be ejected.

As an aside, there are other ramifications for "Death" in the normal game. "Death" costs money - cargo loss, ship loss, equipment loss. These things can be insured but they still cost money. Failure also can negatively impact on reputations in game, with individuals, organisations and factions.

As money and reputation are two forms of "currency" within ED, you can suffer significant setbacks, both on your progression to Elite status (if that's your goal) and in the tools you have at your disposal to further any personal goals you may cherish.

Yes it's not as bad as death, but from the simple reactions of some players here during Alpha, it's not something that players will take lightly either.

IMO, it would be better if every time you get killed, then parts of your body is replaced by mechanic/parts. If you die often, you eventually became a cyborg.

I guess, its more meaningful that way instead of the "indestructible pod." But i guess its too late for that to change now.

That, and this would be lifted straight from Star Citizens death of a spaceman, and would probably cause problems.

WARNING! UNPOPULAR OPINION FOLLOWING!

I'm thoroughly convinced that the Elite Rating (Any of them) should not be a fixed index.

I'll explain... if you are Deadly (just reached it, in fact) and you get killed by a Mostly Harmless you actually LOSE points and possibly retrograde a level.

Being Elite should not mean grind'n'forget. Ohhnoes Sir!
But that's just me.
