My open letter to Fdev

Unfortunately they've created a game with competitive gameplay elements along side game modes that allow avoiding your opponents.
FD has painted themselves into a corner in this regard, and this stuff isn't going to change without disenfranchising a huge portion of the playerbase. So It's likely to never change.

Thankfully I don't give a rats-derrière about power-play, so it doesn't effect me much.

Every player making CG in solo are like cheaters for me... It looks like script kiddies using "invulnerable" mode on every game they play. No more and no less...
COMMUNITY GOALS Damned godness , community, CO-MMU-NI-TY !!!!!!!!.... ALONE, in SOLO ???

Cheaters ! Cheeeeeeeeeeaters !!!! Every you are !!!!!!

I have no interest in this CG or a blockade attempt, but one thing I will say is, regardless of Open / Solo / Private Groups... the game is peer to peer, with instances.
Just because somebody is sat outside a station in open, doesn't guarantee we will be in the same instance... I may never see them, ever!

So, if I am in open, but in a secluded instance, for whatever reason, which happens should my actions not count?
Should they only count and start to matter if there are > 1 players in the session, who are not friends?

Fair enough, I don't know what 'keypress' FD did, but it just reminds me of the pointless, beaten dead horse threads that are solo v open.

But if you have a 50/50 it likely the majority of instances will be filled with opposing players, unless someone is cheating and stopping people from appearing their instances. Not a useful exploit now but probably one that would show up if Frontier ever do the sensible thing an stop solo/private groups from doing power play and community goals.

Player should be able to gather merits for powerplay, do cg and get rewards for those and enjoy bgs from solo/private, but their work shouldn't get counted on the servers. Like you can't make CG get more progress in it from solo/private, no effect to pp. The bgs it self isn't that bad, but CG and pp are. Frontier made huge mistake when they didn't make pp and CG open only thing as they drove away more players from elite than "griefers" and other bad things in elite combined. Those who don't want to get killed always could change to solo/private and didn't leave the game but those who wanted competitive stuff and take part on large stuff like CG/pp left the game.

Well, this was thousand times discussed in the neverending Open/Solo/Private thread.

Simply NO, because FD decided couple of years ago that all modes are equal and every player can enjoy every part of the game content regardless of match-making mode set. The game was and is advertised and sold with this well known feature for a long time and FD is not willing to change anything on it. Which is a logical standpoint, because they do no want return money to thousands of players which bought the game under the promise that they can do EVERYTHING in any of those three settings.

I really do not know, what the discussion about it continues and is neverending.

Official FDev response pre-dating your action:

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...update-Reiteration-of-player-harassment-rules

Hi everyone,

In light of recent issues relating to the way a small collective of players have been approaching and targeting specific private groups and other community events such as charity livestreams, we wanted to reinforce an important part of the existing rules regarding in-game harassment that every player agrees to when creating their account.

We wanted to reiterate some examples regarding the rules of Player harassment. If a player has been blocked from a private group, or a group/individual has taken every step possible to remove a player from their gameplay, then attempting to circumvent this in any fashion is a serious offense and action will be taken accordingly. Attempting to re-establish contact with an individual who has blocked a player through secondary accounts or other methods of attempting to evade the block are against the rules. Action can and will be taken against both the accounts in question and the main accounts of players that we deem to be harassing players through this method.

In addition taking action such as seeking out and targeting specific players purely for the purpose of being disruptive, to cause offence, or to upset players within the community can also be considered harassment. A perfect example of this is deliberately attempting to disrupt public livestreams such as the charity ones mentioned before. This includes, but is not limited to, the capturing of footage and releasing it publically in an attempt to create upset or gain notoriety through the actions listed above.

We have previously stated, and it remains true, that Frontier are not able to manage group specific rules. Players considered to be breaking these group rule sets as established by group moderators should be removed from those groups by said moderators. In addition, running a livestream in Open does invite the potential for players to approach and impact your gameplay and running a livestream in which you are declaring war on another group and they come and take action against you is reasonable and should be expected.

Ultimately it’s about context. The support team can and will review these kinds of offences and will be taking action against accounts that set their entire purpose on harassing players and groups in this way. They are currently investigating a number of incidents and will be dealing directly with any parties involved.

The Frontier Support team take the protection and safety of the community very seriously, they strive to ensure that the game remains fair and friendly. If you feel the need to report an incident, please do get in contact with support via our support site at https://support.frontier.co.uk - please include as much detail of the event as possible.

You can see a copy of the rules that everyone signs up to by creating an account, including harassment, here:
https://www.frontierstore.net/ed-eula/

Thanks for reading.

You specifically set out to engage in PvP in a non-PvP group. You set out to break that private groups rules. You are lucky to still have your accounts. Luckily FDev have yours now with proof from your own support ticket. Nice :D

Whether or not it's right is an entirely different discussion and best not done in a thread where your OP talks about you deliberately breaking the rules.

Sorry, you're not Mr. Braben.

He says doing CG's in Solo/PG is okay.

Sounds like you bought the wrong game. ;)

Some people think that because they bought the game it also gives them a position on the decision making board in FDev headquarters.

If i deliver systems scans in solo i affect the BGS for everyone be they in PG or Open. If someone does the same in open it affects me in solo too. Thats the way this game was designed.
The only ppl i read complaining about this in this forum are PVPers. And why they do complain? Because they want everyone in open for more cannon fodder. That's why mobius has been inflitrated several times.
The rest is just sorry role play excuses!

I was talking about FD using server magic to overturn the result of player actions.. nothing to do do with solo/PG/open or PvP or whatever else you want to rail against.

Please read post #92 behind the link.

It is exactly why all this crying over Solo, Open & PG is pointless.

It's FD's decision to allow BGS influence from Solo, not yours.

You think different? Too bad. Should've beaten David Braben in trademarking Elite Dangerous.

Frontier have listen to players in the past an change their game, the return of the dumb, shooting fish in a barrel AI is one such change, adding tips to where to find resources, adding favours to engineers. I think even bookmarks on the galaxy map was something Frontier added because players asked for it.

If players ask for stuff like community goals to be made available only to people who want to play with the whole community then with enough persistence and a loud enough voice we have a fairly good chance to make Frontier listen to us.

You really don't get it do you? They changed it back because players who support the feds have NO WAY TO COMBAT THIS. What this is is a stop gap until they implement a balanced way for both sides to fight for what they want. They have said numerous times that you will be able to do this exact same thing for future CGs but by then they will have a way for opposing players to fight back.

A well put and mature response to those cheating script kiddies. Hat's off! :)

OTH, this game is market as a multi-player openworld game, where the player's decisions matter.
If they only do matter when it befits Frontier, they might as well just forget about it.

The urge to just post "Go back to EVE" and leave it at that is pretty great, but...

Really? This is the most entitled, whiny set of topics I've seen across these forums and the Elite Dangerous reddit in quite some time. Power Play as far as the Federation side of things is concerned is dead, so your points on Solo and Private Group influencing it are moot from the start, but let's not also forget the fact that this game was designed, from the very beginning, to support solo and private group play. Power Play and CGs in themselves, were designed in a way which allowed everyone in every mode to participate and influence the background of Elite Dangerous as a whole. This was not accidental; It was a feature.

What we really have here is a group of players who want nothing more than to spoil other player's good time under the weak guise of "RP", when it has been reported by players who even played along with the 13th Legion's "RP", that you didn't really follow through and showed your true colors; Killing other players for the sake of killing other players and lack of anything better to do with yourselves. Thankfully, Open Play clearly was and is designed to allow this! While I may not agree with this playstyle, Open Play certainly supports random PvP, and for a long while, Power Play coupled with Open Play used to provide a lot of decent PvP experiences. So if you want to direct your complaints anywhere, leave the private groups and Mobius out of it and petition FDev to overhaul/fix Power Play itself.

No, but it affects everything else. In my opinion it was a poor design choice and I hope that it changes in the future.

Because you represent the players right? We all agree with your point of view.

They should have let this one go an allow the empire their victory. Then they should have suspended all new Empire vs Federation CGs until such time they implement a way for players to one combat people who are playing in Solo/Private group and who use BGS.

Another option could have been to shut this one down completely, with a compensation pay out in credit, announce the Feds/Empire are entering in to close negotiations and then waited until they figure out how they properly implement a way to tie together BGS and community goals so that both sides have a way of countering the influence of the BGS.
