The internals in other ships would work purely from a game perspective but unless the other ships get totally redesigned the passengers won't see anything. I realise it's just a game but it would nice if it makes sense. I suppose you can have passenger missions that are more like a taxi ride from A to B than a sight seeing trip.
Oh no... I just thought of something horrible... now the passengers are going to fit into the "change my destination during the mission" or "get me there quicker and I'll pay you more money" mechanic that was recently introduced
Well, since the game seems to be going down a path of certain ships for specific roles, there may only be a few viable option. Orca being one, Beluga being another mentioned in the game files and the Dolphin is an underwater thing so options there as well.
I don't think it would work in the way you're suggesting though regards the chat.Passengers pay up front for a tour, period. No changing destinations unless offered a very large amount of credits and there would be no guarantee you would even be doing something that wouldn't bite you in the ass. Only a very foolish CMDR might do such a thing as to detour, risking payment or legal repercussions (rep damage), usually from the noisy end of a Railgun or something similar.
That is unless they are unscrupulous and up to no good. Maybe faction standing could work with that where is allied with slave trading scum, then they work with you to make slaves of the tourists or something like that. If you're only friendly with them then there could be trouble.
It's quite possible that some messages might flag up with a mini-crisis or something like that though. Sightseeing could involve allowing passenger to take footage by flying steadily over an area where they always have a line of sight, or something completely different.
I dunno, but there's plenty of ways to make things work.
I'm just throwing things out there.
