More seriously, I've been playing a bit of XCom recently - turn-based Sci-fi strategy. There's shedloads of good sci-fi RTS games out there.
In terms of FPS games, I'm struggling to recommend anything.
I NEVER SAID FPS just fyi =P

Rebel Galaxy is pretty good.
I REALLY loved Drox Operative. It's cheap and oodles of fun if you like that sort of thing. It doesn't look like much but it is really fun and addictive.
Do you have VR? Space Rift is looking kind of awesome if you are.

I'd second ED also.
It might become this fully fleshed out proper Elite game at some point, but for now (especially with CQC if that is your thing?) it really is all about the shooting stuff, it just does that so much better than everything else.

Steam World Heist, its brilliant! But not sure its really what you are looking for 
I disagree. House of the Dying Sun, if you have VR, is better than ED for shooting stuff. Way better. It actually has a more epic feel and it offers a more immersive and frantic experience.
It's kinda like Colony Wars.
