Outer Arm Vacuus

Easy enough question....has it been crossed? I wrapped up a scouting of the region around the Skull an Crossbones Nebula this weekend and looking at those 2 clusters of stars on the tip of the outer arm, I am searching for a crossing. I have slowly worked my way back towards the crab skimming as close to the gap as possible looking for a bridge but have come up empty handed. I have 49ly range and "could" use jumponium but no idea if I would get stranded in the gap and would really rather find a bridge in my range. I have a feeling I will going as far back up the arm as the Rift but hoping that is not the case.
Assuming I don't find what I am looking for and choose to cross the Heisenburg Bridge, I may find myself just joining the Rifters :)
....
Ok, so back to original question...."if" I cross the gap further up the arm, is the Vacuus crossable or more importantly, has anyone?

So I know I am just talking to myself now, but looking at the Paradox Shortcut....yeaaaa...I'll be heading as far back up the arm as I suspected. But it leaves the question of the Vacuus itself...guess I will see when I get there.

Get a good roll on your FSD mod, pack some jumponium just in case, plot your route wisely, bookmark potential jumponium systems and you should be fine. ;)

Only a very small number CMDRs have travelled along the Outer Arm Vacuus, possibly fewer than 10 to any great extent. It's main claim to fame is that it contains the systems furthest from the centre of the galaxy and also the furthest south systems. To the best of my knowledge, only three CMDRs have actually made it to greater than 45,000 LY from Sag A* namely myself, Turambar (ASC on the forum) and Fawcett (NeilF forum). With your jump range you can definitely become the 4th.

My "Paradox Shortcut" is somewhat of a joke entry as it is a really poor use of hard earned premium jumponium materials. I only documented it because it was about as extreme a "shortcut" as possible in the post-engineers galaxy. If it becomes easier to find the rarer materials then it may well become more viable.

nb: if you are looking to travel to places that few, if any, have been before then I do recommend at least installing EDDiscovery. Only a fraction of CMDRs record their trips using it so you can't say that "no one has been to X before" but it does a good job of showing where at least some of us have been!

Phraa Groa MG-F C14-0 at -40,544 LY was the furthest I could get in the pre-jumponium days. I'm not aware of it being beaten yet, but obviously it could now be done by quite some margin.

Yes, with the first direct crossing having been done by yours truly in Dec. 3301. It's on the GMP as Daedalus Crossing: check above the NGC 1893 nebula (as that was my original destination), or read the original post here.

With a 49 ly jump range, you can make the crossing quite easily. I did it with a 35 ly ship and only T1 boosts, and I think no boosts are needed above 42 ly.

For a most excellent map, see Vitamin Arrr's South Galaxy Crossin' Map.

Really appreciate the replies. I am determined to work my way down the arm once I cross the gap. I took a good look at the Paradox route and I agree, it's interesting but the cost of materials would require a lot of prep. I am ok with back tracking to a bridge I can do with my 49ly range. Been fun slicing tight along the gap looking for a route. I think shooting for that 45k goal sounds like fun and I'll sort out my EDD. I have it, just had issues getting it to work.

By the way, those Vitamin Arr maps are epic...thanks for sharing that...really made my day.

Got EDD working and am transferring my 6489 entries to EDSM now.....real glad I got this sorted and look forward to contributing since I basically live in the black.

Just on my way back from a trip through with a 39LY conda, really fun trip.
Want to engineer this ship now though.

If some of you want to go out there again in the following months, and take part to an insane endeavour, check the Borderlands Venture ;)

We can use dedicated explorers ;)
