Am I the only one that doesn't want a "big" ship?

Come beta I'll be striving to get into a Cobra. Sure, I'll try an Eagle on my way there, but I have zero desire to pilot/own an Anaconda or Lakon.

Why? Because to me trading is a means to an end. That end is largely exploration and the occasional legit shoot-out in space. And once I have the Cobra, fully outfitted, I think I'll just fly around and have fun.

Am I the only one not aspiring to own/fly one of the big ships? They simply don't tickle my fancy.

It'll be the Cobra for me for a long time too. I may try an Anaconda at some point well in the future when I've lots of spare cash but it's not going to be my main aim

I'll be looking forward to being able to walk around inside my ship, so it'll need to be big enough to have a few rooms (that I'll be able to decorate/furnish to my own tastes of course).

I'd agree - I hope that every ship in the game is a viable 'end game' ship for somebody, based on what they want to do. Upgrading shouldn't be an automatic decision once you can afford it. It would be great for example if even the humble Sidewinder was so perfect for certain tasks that some players would elect to stick with it no matter how wealthy they get.

This might be hard to achieve from a game balancing point of view.

I will definitely be flying the big ships, first to experience the handling of such ships and try out a bit of trading exploration, but I definitely will spend more time on the more nimble ships. At least at first... I'm sure the more I play the game my play style will change, but right now I am more interested in collecting bounties

Also I want to see how many times it will take for me to dock them without exploding...

I'd love to see even bigger trading ships. Maybe you could even have to park outside the station and use a shuttle for docking.

I have a cobra and over a million in the credits department, i like the cobra too much lol
As others have said i may try an anaconda in later years but im happy with what the cobra offers at present.

I think David did mention that the design intention is to be able to use any ship for as long as you want. Certain ships are able to accomplish certain tasks more aptly, but overall you COULD use a Sidewinder from "start to Elite". I would give someone major kudos for doing that...maybe if the cargo hold was a liiiiiitle bit larger :-D

I can't wait to sit in the cockpit of a Lakon Type 9 wearing an Oculus Rift, but will probably run about in a smaller vessel for most of my time.

I've flown the Sidewinder, Eagle and Cobra in the Alpha process. I have enough credits for a Lakon but haven't had the urge to try it yet.

I had such a blast in the Cobra last night, trading, fighting and exploring that I can't see too much further than that at the moment.

I may try the Lakon tonight but will make sure I've enough in the bank to reobtain my Cobra once I've painted a Coriolis with it!

I suspect a Cobra Mk III will suit me just fine.

I'll admit to having a hankering for a Lakon Type 9 Q-ship, kitted out with military bulkheads, uprated engines/shields and enough weaponry to start (and finish) a small war, though.

Just because.

My Kickstarter pledge allows me to start in a Cobra MkIII, and that is what I will be happy with.

It may be great to be able to fly these big ships like an Anaconda, but for me, it'd just be frustrating, so a Cobra MkIII is all I need.

OP, you are not alone. I love that ships like the Lakon Type 9 and Anaconda are there for players, and the fact that those are about the upper bound in terms of flyable ship sizes (i.e. no giant battlecruisers in player hands), but I prefer small to medium sizes ships, too. I will definitely be flying an Eagle a lot of the time, and for trading I will use something in between a Cobra and Anaconda, and for exploration I think the Cobra has just the perfect size to feel large enough to live in for weeks away from civilization.

I think people talk about ships in the alpha/beta, not what's viable in the final game :)

In final game we can own multiple ships so I will build up a fleet that suits different needs for me.

In Alpha the ship ive had most fun in is the eagle. You have better firepower in a cobra but compared to an eagle they are sluggish. And ive died 3 times in a cobra and non in the eagle. So for pure fighting purpose I wud go for an fully equipped eagle rather than a cobra :)

I'm not so much after the 'bigest' ship as a 'big enough' ship - if that makes sense. Big enough to make exploration viable. A long range Cobra MkIII or an Asp Explorer. Something along those lines. The Lakons, Anacondas et al are all nice and dandy but as long as the fuel tank is big enough and the hold large enough to hold the probes and surplus fuel, I'll be happy :D

I must admit I am interested in trying the big ships, but I can imagine my ship of choice being a Cobra or something about the same size. Always fancied a Fer de Lance for some reason...
