Following the publication of this post by Commander Bungalo, it might be worthwhile concentrating your search efforts on USS that spawn in the close vicinity of planetary bodies, as opposed to 'deep space'. It looks like the UP are particularly interested in planets and moons, and have little regard for stars. Just a thought. Good luck o7

Please post your results in the following format:

Duration : 4 hours. (!)
 Any additional information: Star class (in case it becomes apparent that free-floating UP have a predilection for a certain type of Star-system). Also any other information you feel might have longer-term relevance, for example: system spawns many T3 distress calls, or lots of T0 Encoded Emissions. That sort of thing.

Again I will update post #2 as information comes in.

Additional Info: The distress call was weird. Wing of two dangerous level pirate shaking down a freighter. Seems odd they are way out here, but didn't think to check the freighter before running just in case.

Additional info : I got interdicted 4 times by the same npc (lawless FAS), so I stop searching
There was a very bright light on Pleione 3 (probably a bug).

What were the exact conditions last time someone found one of them ? They are carried by military convoy, so maybe we should look at places where we can expect to find such convoys

Well, that is a good idea and a fine angle to pursue, but by my understanding this search is also to see if we can find another source of the Probes. Apparently one of the devs let it slip one time that there are free-floating UPs out there. Finding the free-floaters would give us a source of Probes that would be an awful lot easier than fighting off multiple escort craft when trying to get one from the ultra-rare convoys.
