Closing in on 50K

As of this post 49,951 people have now backed ED.

Hopefully we'll hit 50K before the 30th (UK time). It would be a nice thank you for all Frontier Developments hard work if we break this milestone on the eve of the beta

Does a late purchase of Prem-Beta (about a month ago) count towards me being a 'Backer'???

otherwise where can I sign up!

Where are you getting your info from?...Id hate to believe ED has 10X fewer backers than SC?

Nearly 50K playing the game on Friday night. I hope Frontiers servers and the nations energy companies will be able to take the strain. ;)

There are 50K backers but lots of those are not at Pre Beta or higher. So a lot less players than that. And yes it is a fraction of what SC currently have listed as backers.

Tonight 50000 backers will be reached

It's because Frontier haven't been making starship ****, and selling gilded dreams. They've been making a game instead, and marketing will follow later.

Wait... pron is a dirty word?

ED had raised £3m from their 50,000 backers.
SC has raised $45m from their 450,000 backers.

Its no surprise really since Frontier have been pretty low key in marketing the game compared to the aggressive approach CiG took when marketing theirs.

I think in a few years time the numbers of active players will even out and the majority of people who love these types of games will have both installed on their hard-drives at some point. There are no subscriptions so there's no disincentive not to try both games

Actually SC has 400k+ registered people to the website.. the number of people who have bought into the game is closer to 250k.. still a huge number but the number pasted on the front page is a bit misleading.

That said I did back SC as well as Elite.. and hope both games become everything that they both strive for.

we have been without a good space sim for more than a decade and now we potentially have two.. my only regret is having to split my time.

I think pace of new backers/buyers is very good, especially last 2 weeks. No reason to complain. Game is still a way to go, it´s marathon not a sprint (i know bad cliche). :)

I back both also..one Alpha has exceeded my expectations...the other has given me delays....and delays..and a towel.

FE2 has been sold 1 million copies in Europe in the 90s

I know, I was one of those million who bought it. I've actually got it in front of me as I type - been reading the manual, looking at the star chart and reading the stories from the Frontier gazetteer to get me in the mood for tomorrow :p
