Your first statement is false. Had to check this myself on a couple audio files just to make sure. Even if you use the outermost "glow" from the circle as it's edge it's at most 1.8 seconds in diameter/duration. (on preview I see someone beat me to it) [/QUOTE said:
Yes - you are right- my bad (I had slowed and sped up thing too many times, going back to the original - i measure the radius to be 0.8 sec.... wonder if that means anything

I was thinking about the symmetry in Merope in general, and is it possible we're missing an orbiting body? Like, a hidden ship/planet/station? Maybe there's something in the Lagrange/intersections? I mean, there's 4 numbers on the map/key thing.

Others have been speculating on that too. I don't think they'd do it. The magical advanced discovery scanner has an unlimited range really. I really wish it didn't and forced us to use the parallax and other means to find planets like we used to have to do. It was fun searching for planets! It makes it more challenging.

If they started to introduce dark planets they better introduce a mechanism to detect them.

Yeah, but maybe that's how it's hidden? You need to un-stealth it with the UA/UP/ADS ? I mean, it may not be the right answer but none of the others been proven to be either

Take 2

Whatever your theory might be - the idea is that the circle and symbols mean something.

Lets just review the numbers generated by the circle

The circle has a radius of 0.8 second
the circle has a circumference of 5 seconds
The circle is divided into quadrants.
a radius line is in the bottom right quadrant dividing that quadrant in 2
A line is drawn parallell to the circumference in the top left quadrant
two lines intesect the circumference from outside the circle. this marks an area of 1/12 the circumference. (0.41 seconds)
If you take the 0 as the top these lines represent, 4/12 to 5/12 pf the total circumference. If you take )
If you take 0 as the conventional right side they mark 7/12 to 8/12
If you take 0 as the radius line they represent 17/24 to 19/24 as fraction of the circumference

In terms of trigonometry
the radius line has x axis point of + 0.57
the radius line has a y axis point of - 0.57

the two line intersecting circumference in bottom left quadrant have tangent of -0.64 and -2.24 respectively
they have an x axis point of -0.43 and -0.73 respectively
they have a y axis point of -0.67 and - 0.33 respectively (hmmm seems like 2/3 and 1/3 exactly)

Whatever theory turns out true at least some fact of these numbers would be relevant. THe fact that the representation seems to be a unit circle suggests this is a puzzle to solve before applying to any geographical features.

" I'm perplexed this statement. I can do this work on a 10 year old mac mini I just have laying around. Audio spectra don't require a beefy computer. I know that not everyone in the world has a computer but it seems weird that they'd be able to play Elite and not also have a computer. What does a "rural area" have to do with anything? Anyway, perhaps I've taken your comment out of context and if I have, I pre-apologize. I just didn't get it. "

- I was replying to the feeling of a poster a few bits back where someone felt that (if I was understanding right) the game should take place in the game because a lot of people don't have access to the software/hardware needed to solve the puzzles. That's what I got out of their post at least. I was trying to say that I don't think that's the case at all.
- Further I was mostly expressing what you are. It IS a game, there is just access to more today that's possible than there has been. The rural area comment was that it seems to be a lot of people who feel as the person I was responding to did think the puzzle must only be resolvable with those of some sort of extra 'means' than just the game. I genuinely see us as not taking into account something logical we've overlook.
- We've made this puzzle something intensely complex. Maybe that's because we have ump-teen players with different perspectives. It's a lot of information to sort.

I did not know this. Scratch that then.

I'm just trying to look at this as a game. I'm supposing here that no hard science at all need be applied. Instead something practical, game available, and wholly present is the way forwards.

This is probably not the answer, but maybe it will help everyone in whatever their speculations are:

The green area of the dashboard could be the 'chevron' in the spectogram. Originally I believe the spectogram came out distorted, right? Maybe it was supposed to be.

Try G99-49 4 or 5 (sorry I forget which, try both!). Reasonably high chance of convoy threat 4s nearby on a few nights of searching - but not seen a UP Python spawn in one yet. By all accounts they are rare.

Back to the UP message, been thinking again about the details on either side of the main image.

Sorry for the crudeness of the sketch, but gives you an idea of where to look - on page 1, check Rizal's image posts again, especially the first magnified version and the second 'red' version beneath it.

I increasingly think we're missing something significant in the image. But until that can be confirmed or refuted, I'm considering what elements are merely sound artifacts (no pun intended), and what is genuinely part of the message. What do you think? And the dark green circled area in the top right - I assume it is noise, but it is very distinctively shaped noise...

Holy crap, I think I just realized a hint! They increased Radio Chatter and NPC volume, and made the UP audio occur every 7 minutes!

That means that WHILE YOU'RE CARRYING the UP, you get a message? Any commanders with UPs should just record 10 minutes of Audio away from external noises, I think.

Edit: The UP transmission TIME is 7 minutes, reduced from something before. Also it was specifically Radio Chatter but they might be in the same class

I did not read your post close enough. Sorry.

Sorry, this may come as an sensory overload to all of us.
This is just some of the new sound I found today (#1 and #2) - and yesterday (#3) pre-patch.

As a result from the stream, new sound sources that needs investigation
1. Radio Tower inside station
Results aka:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KMxmo7DebS8

2. Outside Coriolis stations only - the Turret on the front side, outer rings. Sound like "whales / UA sounds".
Highligh, ~22 seconds long:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7PDyyb9PYs

3. Galaxy core, displaying a weak 'triangular shapes' thing. I have better recording of this, but anyone of you can go out and grab it.
Go high up, over the bubble - above the dark belt.
Point your nose at the Galaxy core - external view, make sure you use "Boost" audio profile (or Night time).
Note: This drawing was there yesterday, in v.2.1.0.4
Sample principle:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TVUTDd9NBNU

this is CRAZY

RECORDING REQUIREMENTS
1. Make sure you use BOOST / NIGH TIME profiles in ED, audio options.

AUDACITY
As seen in the videos, I play around using settings like:
Scale : Linear + Logarithmic (depending on the image)
Minim : 80 to 150
Max : 22000

Colors:
Gain : -45
Range : 125
Frequency gain : 35

Or I test one change at a time, by 5 or 10, up or down within these ranges:
Gain : -45 to -65
Range : 125-155
Frequency gain : 25-45

Algorithm I use:
Algorithm : Frequencies
Window size : 2048 for live, 4096 for final outputs
Window type : Gaussian (a=3.5)
Zero padding: 1 or 2 depending what I like

For the tower message, recorded in NIGHT TIME mode:
Color sequence (in linear mode):
1. try -55,125,35
2. -75,135,45 is nice as well

That is soooo cool and totally confusing!

The green area of the dashboard could be the 'chevron' in the spectogram. Originally I believe the spectogram came out distorted, right? Maybe it was supposed to be.

Could very well be. The distortion is a good point too, I'm not sure but was the circle always a perfect circle or slightly er squished? I know our perspective of our radar it is not a perfect circle unless we were to look right over the top of it, which we cant anyway.

Also, I enjoy reading galnet and have noticed a few hints recently about meta alloy having another use we haven't discovered. Maybe UP is no longer that important to find, hence why so rare. Meta alloy are everywhere right now and galnet put a big sign up (in my eyes) saying "Barnacles Here!" And "Go get meta alloy!" With the community goal articles. Maybe the "key" is something to do with meta alloy on the right place?

I also notice MB say the other day about "direction" and in the galnet article talking about the meta alloy community goal it says something like "ideally positioned".

Now this could be me just seeing what I want to see, but I thought I would try to share regardless. I cant chop up the pics but I am on my way back to the bubble to see if I can work anything out in the actual merope system with my radar, my meta alloys and my Unknow artifacts.

So, tonight's theory after flying around Merope 5 trying to make the symbol fit somehow.

ZQUFtQf.png

What you see is Merope 5C, with Merope 5 behind it. Merope 5's rings are poking out in the top left quadrant. Merope 5's orbit lines are showing, and I'm positioned in space to see them as pairs on each side of Merope 5c. I rotated the symbol so the Merope 5C orbit lines are inside the symbol's bottom left "angle". I then used a version of my theories where I extended the longitude lines using ellipses and used that to scale the symbol (not shown above). I then followed the radius line in the bottom right corner of the symbol to a point on Merope 5c. I landed there (a crater) and found nothing.

Not to say that I simply don't have the position in space correct, or the scaling of the symbol correct. But if this is the solution, then trying to get everything to align is a real PITA.

Ya, I'm really taken by what you put down the image. Sorry, I spelled your name wrong!

We've been cracking at this thing with science, but what you did makes the most sense at any stage post-spectogram. Also, on image two I circled the -|- on the dashboard.

What I'm kind of worried about now is that whatever was to be solved with the UP has come and gone.

Dont worry about spelling my name wrong happens all the time :)

I see where you marked that 2nd image, makes me wonder as well that maybe the |-- --| could be then. Zoom level? See the little slider in the middle at the bottom of our radar? Maybe those symbols at the bottom are showing position of zoom, to be centre? That would make it easier to pinpoint an exact location or direction to go. The zoom level greatly effects the radar images of course so it would need to show what setting to have it on.

I have my own tinfoil opinion about the Unknown probe that I won't go into too much, but basically it is a man made perversion of an UA designed to block/disrupt/disable the UA signal... Whatever the case, there is still much to learn about artifacts and meta alloy in my opinion so the rarity of UPs does not bother me.
