Exactly ... and if they DID make the answer that deep into a bunch of nonsense so that only people from JPL could figure this out it would show how out of touch they are with their fans.. Oh wait..

we make it nonsense, kenney, some people is more enthusiastic, has more time, more knowledge, other visions.

in other words:
5 * 10 = 100
5^2 * 10 / (200 - 100 - 50) * 10 = 100

it doesn't matter how some people get the left part of that, as long as they find a new clue or a solution.

here everyone plays their way, only you and a few keep asking for hints, in case you didn't notice.

Here we have Merope 2, Merope and Merope 5 all lined up.

As you can see, Merope 2 is almost exactly opposite Merope 5. There might be the tiniest difference between them, but this hasn't changed in two weeks now.

They're not out of touch with me... Or thousands of other people that have contributed to these threads. More than any other set of threads on these forums.

I get it - you're frustrated. We all get that. Take some time and leave it to those who aren't, then come back if you feel like it. You'll be welcome.

I know that is why I said JPL was working on it. The fact it isn't solved by now shows you my point exactly. There is no hate there is just the fact I'm pointing out the futility of some of the extremes people are going to.

I work with narrow minded people like this all the time. They are trying to look at all the tiny little details and getting so overwhelmed with specifics that they can't see the larger simpler solution. In fact they have concept of the bigger picture which usually leads to the correct and most simple solution. Of course being a fan of Sherlock Holmes myself there is the process of elimination which can take time. There is value in the details without a doubt. I just think people are going way too far in trying to crack this.

I mean people are hearing voices in the audio and thinking they are seeing patterns that are not there. Its a serious case of pareidolia! That also being said there probably is more in the audio than we've found. They have a fantastic sound department and it would make sense for them to leverage their skills.

Hey Ozric - is your name based off the band? They are pretty awesome.

I think there was a post from someone else exactly like this before the morse was discovered in the UA.

And the shell.

And the barnacles.

Seriously - take a break!

Ozric Tentacles? Used to know one of the band members. His daughter is a lovely lady.

Well Elephant Nebula came back dry for me. There are some very nice barney planets out there. I got 0 USS.... (And I visited those that produced some for some of those that spent time in there)

Good enough. Was an idea is all :)
I can't help feeling if a lot of you guys could talk in real time we'd 'get something'

I think I know what you're getting at - and second it. Forum rage plays out a lot quicker in realtime.

Colonel K has had many good contribs here - along with many others. it'd be nice to have him back to positive mode ASAP. We're all better being positive. Me included (and hypocrisy acknowledged). :)

I don't think they face palm over it. Thing is the majority of theories in this thread have been well composed and logical. even if they are wrong i think you've got to admire the creativity and intelligence of some of the people working on this.

If they're anything like me when my players completely miss the clues in puzzles I set, they're probably experiencing a mix of:
  • I thought that was obvious, how did I screw up my clues?
  • That's a much better idea than what I came up with, let me steal it.

I suspect some of you would be very disappointed if you met somebody from JPL, they tend to spill mustard on their shirt at lunch just like everybody else. And JPL is not working on it, there may be an employee (likely more than one) that plays ED but that's not really the same thing.

I don't think being employed by JPL ensures any real advantage, they have a range of disciplines just like any other scientific or technical organization, most of which don't translate to this puzzle at all or don't translate in a way that's more beneficial than a wide range of other organizations.

What's the cleanest highest resolution image of the UP sound visualized? Is it the blue one on page 1? If not does anyone have a higher res/cleaner one?

what are the orbital periods and distances of these two? that would explain why they "didn't move" in a week..

2347.5 days for Merope 2. 154.9 days for Merope 5... What's going on there then? Surely M5 would have moved by now in two weeks? What gives? And why has M5 a hulluva faster orbit that M2?

There is something going on here... The fact that M5 distance is hidden... M2A's perfect earth day orbit... Weird, and worth paying attention to IMHO.

Just been watching CMDR Josh Hawkins' excellent fictional series, and noticed the displays behind the cockpit in the Asp: they look extremely like the UP message. Can't find any other reference to this, but has this been noted?

You can see the displays here: https://youtu.be/IGWyC9I1584?t=4m27s

It's also as he mentioned the Pleiades....does he know something we don't?

Don't see anything I'm afraid. Josh is part of this rag tag crew isn't he?

Merope 5 is not directly orbiting the main star like Merope 2 is don't forget.

Also the person at JPL might be the person at JPL who fixes the printers rather than the person who does rocket science! ;-)

you can see the distances in the target panel while in super cruise. Hint: Knowing the distance and the period you can calculate the angular velocity :)

M5 is a star though. The system map shows fewer details on stars than planets regardless of whether they are the primary or orbiting another. Distance from entry point is always missing from stars.

Ah right. Merope 6. Barycentre. But both barycentres are orbiting Merope. (M3+M4 - M5+M6) Shame we don't know the orbital period.
