VR Performance

I would put this in the VR area of the forum, but like many I hardly ever look there.

Since the latest patch was deployed, has anyone else noticed worse performance while playing in VR?

I find it's not immediate, but after playing for about 30 mins or so it starts to really Stutter in stations and then shortly after it starts stuttering even when in normal space with nothing in view but maybe a distant planet or just the background. Restarting the game helps which suggests to me it is some sort of memory leak.

It's a little hot here lately so I did wonder if it was the temperature but boosting the speed of all the fans to level: 'noisy' just didn't make any difference. My system has a GTX970 with i7 and 24GB of RAM running on a Oculus DK2 and was comfortably running graphics setting: VR high until the latest patch, now with it set to VR low and the latest nvidia drivers it still has this problem of stuttering after a bit of gameplay.

Anyone else confirm they have noticed this?
Cheers

I've been playing Elite Dangerous in VR with the Rift for hours on end this last week, and I haven't had any such problems. This is on a GTX 1080.

Actually i asked myself it there were any performance upgrades... i havent checked the fps but the game felt overall more fluid and sharper... i am using a GTX970 with VR high settings.

980ti and rift.
No change, have even had a couple of 3-4 hour sessions since last patch and no degrading performance.

I am also playing with overclocking my cpu from 3.4Ghz to 4.1 and I think that helps stabilise my fps quite a bit.

Was hoping for a fix in 2.1.0.5 but sadly not

Yep slightly worse performance and unfortunately the memory leak bug has not been fixed. Running a 980TI, every maxed out. Definitely a bit more lag, still smooth overall but that is probably just a brute force thing due to my setup. I doubt the 1080 guys would even notice.

we 1080 guys notice it but it's very subtle and infrequent. i rolled my drivers back to the 368.39 from the 368.81 and it does seem to have helped a bit.

Ah, yes reading through that thread seems to strike a cord with my issue. I have not managed to grind it to a halt yet, but it develops unbearable judder after about 40 odd minutes of play. Frequent jumps and landings seem to make it worse. Odd thing for me though is that I was not experiencing this issue BEFORE 2.1.0.5 so, not only is it not fixed, but something is more broken than before! :(

Shame really, I gave this game a massive break because I just felt really let down by the RNGineer update but last week decided to wipe my save and start again with the new mission board. It's been fun working my way out of the sidewinder again but this new issue is yanking the immersion out for me when I have to restart every 30 mins. FD please don't abandon the VR aspect of this game!

Could be your issue is with your machine (virus, background apps, virus software, your cpu or graphics card throttling etc...

The freezing issue has been duplicated and acknowledged by devs. Many. like myself, had changed nothing before it began. They are working to find a solution.

Since the update, I've had my CV1 lock up three times.

The HMD display 'fractures' and goes static and shows an hour glass. The monitor still works fine. If I held the HMD in my just right, I could continue to play. I restart the game and its fine.

Running a 980ti, i5 4xxx and 16GB RAM, Win7. Middle of the road settings, very conservative. Never had it before even with higher settings.

I appreciate the sentiment to help, but my machine is far from throttling (spec in OP) and its clean of viruses. Only background apps are the anitvirus software, perhaps chrome and of course Oculus Home. Its the only application having any issues and it only started immediately after the 2.1.0.5 update which kinda points all the fingers at one suspect.

At least I am not the only one to acquire this bug after the 2.1.0.5 update. None of my hardware appears to match yours so it doesn't seem to be linked to that. After I first noticed the problem I updated my nvidia drivers as they were 3 months old. Didn't help. I also noticed that the display seems smooth and fine on the monitor when moving the DK2 about.

Playing ED with my Oculus does fill up my RAM over a period of time (like 1-2 hours?) to the point Windows is saying i should close the application
and eventually i get ED stopping in VR with only a 2D plane there and only the desktop mirror running.
All at my new GTX 1070 and 16GB of RAM with no swap file on Windows 10 64 bit.

I can't say if it is new, because i only got my Rift since friday.
