Not enough credits for rebuy... does this mean its game over?

Unfortunately even deselecting the mods doesn't reduce the price enough, still in the red... Sidewinder is the only option.
.
TBH, I had no idea about the insurance not being sufficient for a rebuy, you'd think that you'd go into debt until it was paid off. Never been in that situation before.
.
Stuck with the Sidewinder hundreds of lightyears from where you were is not very fun. I do have a Vulture parked a long way off, but I'll need to find a way to get to it, obviously this Sidewinder doesn't have the range for some of the jumps, no clear path.
.
I dunno, I'm pretty devastated right now. I'm not a hard-core player like some here, still trying to wrap my head around the Engineers upgrades... only managed 1 mod to my Python in all that time, couldn't find the resources needed for any upgrades, unlike some of you that have done heaps.
.
I just don't understand how a Conda can still get pawned by 2 cobras and a viper. I thought they removed the subsystem attacks... I swear they took out my power plant or distributor straight away, I had no chance of jumping out of there in time.

Might have to hang up the boots for a while I think... too angry right now... this game likes to kick you in the nuts with a baseball bat when you do something silly. Not very forgiving. Can't believe 18 months of playing is virtually down the tube. [ugh]

To be fair, that is not true at all. If you dont have the money, you do go into debt. But that has a limit, otherwise death would become totally meaningless once you've got whatever ship you want. It is very clearly explained in the manual. As for how you can lose a ship, depends on your build. This isnt WoW where a high-end ship is immune to cheaper ships. Check the basic stats: https://coriolis.io/outfit/anaconda

Its a huge ship, impossible to hit, with shields akin to a Vulture and less than 1000 armor. Three ships is 12(!) hardpoints aimed at you, almost all of them hitting you non-stop. A conda without heavy upgrades is essentially a tradeship.

Anyway, for 300k or so you have a hauler that jumps 30LY. Get the Vulture and you have a Python in a no=time. Then when you get to the conda, come here and ask for help giving it a proper loadout. Also, as said, the 18 months are not down the tube. Credits are increasingly easy to get, rep and rank is not. I'd much rather lose all my ships and credits than all my rank and rep!

Good luck. :)

Is bank loan not a thing anymore? I remember this happening to me, only it was with my cobra mkIII when I first started, and I was able to take a bank loan or something instead of filing bankruptcy, which was paid back by taking 10% off the top of all money earned until I paid back the entire amount. There was the option to start over in a sidewinder, or buy back your old ship and loadout with a bank loan. Is this not a thing anymore?

You're "loaned" (given) the Sidewinder, but no real loan other than that that I know of.

You made the mistake not having the insurance money on your account, only yourself to blame, not the game. Get over it.

You get a loan based on your highest rank. The Op had a loan but unfortunately not enough to make up the balance from his cash. Loan amounts go up to around 7 million at Elite rank, can't remember the exact number.

Edit - I guess they increased the loan amounts for each rank, Deadly gives you 7.5 million.

It's only game over if you decide it is. Otherwise, it's an opportunity to do things better and learn.

This game IS unforgiving, but the rules are pretty clear. Fly without enough to rebuy, and you risk it all.

Sorry for your loss, but on the other hand, I sort of envy you, too. Assuming you don't quit, and pick yourself up and continue, I bet you'll have a great time re-building. It's all fun, to me.

Good luck!

The big ships are no fighters, they are far too sluggish. Any smaller ship and the Clipper can always stay behind you and knock you down with the right weapons and endurance. Turrets help but not against 3 of them. You're toast even faster.

If you really want some money PM me and I'll drop you some stuff you can sell to help you in game like gold or painite!

Lucky enough I've never been near to bankruptcy in Elite.

Tell that to my corvette.

Thanks. Might have heard that from somewhere before. Have only "died" 5 times in the game since getting it early last year and had enough for the insurance each time.

Unnecessary.

No, it was not. Maybe it came out a bit harshly, but:

I did the exact same mistake as OP last year. Except i destroyed my only ship, i didnt have Vulture parked somewhere.
I just had bought my T-7 and fully aware and knowing the consequenses having not money for insurance, took the risk and bit the dust later that day.
Only way for me to keep on playing in that Sidewinder all over from the scratch was to get over it as soon as possible and not to think about it.

The more you think what you just did, the more it gets to you.

Just get over it, dont think about it and continue playing.

If I were in your shoes I would

When you get back to your vulture, do low res zones for a couple of hours and tag the targets the police are shooting at. Use a kill warrant scanner if you have one

After getting 2-3m (shouldn't take that long)

strip all the modules off and sell your vulture where you can buy a type 6

Configure the type 6 for maximum cargo and maximum jump range(leaving a shield and fuel scoop on ofc)

Go to Sothis/Ceos and run missions there. 80 tones or so should get you between 10 and 15m a go

Upgrade to an ASP(max cargo with shield and fuel scoop) and do the same thing, making 20-40m per go

Do that for a few more hours

Rebuy your Python or carry on until you get enough for your Anaconda

:)

Basically, you should be able to back where you were or better off within about 20h of game play

I got caught with my pants down like this. Then, during rebuilding cash... I lost thrust control as a result of combat. Had to self-destruct.

Took me two times, but I learned the hard way. Next time I had enough cash for insurance to re-buy but immediately returned to a less-expensive ship to rebuild cash.

I'd always wondered what happened, but haven't found out the hard way. Armed with knowledge, I'll not repeat the mistakes of others.

Rep+ for admitting to a mistake, taking a massive loss and taking accountability for your actions.

You never know this may be a mixed blessing. Early gameplay is a different beast and can (and has for some that reset) rejuvenate the fun and risk that doesn't exist when you have boatloads of credits.

I would take this as an opportunity to do a fresh start with all your hard earned skills intact.
