Horizons Prasedymum, searching for...

Gday all,
is there any other way for me to find this material than by mining.
I outfitted an Asp Explorer and went to a remote pristine metallic ring was there about 5 minutes, had just got the mining laser operating and was jumped by not one, but three ship. Needless to say lost the ship.
I dont want to go thru that again as its too damm expensive, even with the insurance costs.

I have searched many stations but it seems you can sell Prase... but not buy it. Suggestions please.

If I must I will again buy a ship and go mining, but it will be a cheap and nasty setup as I only need this material for two upgrades with Tod the Blaster.

Cheers all.

I received it from missions twice, not       about mining so I just do missions to get what I need for engineers.

Someone in Tun gave it to me and I am allied with every Fed there.

I just now saw a mission that offered four units as a reward in Laedla - Kummer Acropolis (I think - it was the one with palm trees)
(Though it was Friendly-locked)

I have seldom seen it as a reward and only in small numbers. It isn't too hard to mine. It is pretty common in metallic and metal rich rings. If you go a pristine ring, such as Tofana and Frey, you will find it in quantities. If you are doing the Engineers, you will need to mine materials in a more efficient way than waiting for a random mission reward, pristine is the way to go.

Two things:

First, praseodymium can also be found easily in Metal Rich rings too.

Second, when you drop into a ring you need to boost away from the initial NPC spawn. After they show up on your radar keep boosting until they are out of your sensor range, and go a little further just to be sure. After you get away from the initial NPC spawn you can mine for hours without any NPC interfering.

Take prospector limpets and check the content before you start mining. Dont bother with anything less than 20% praseodymium. I spent 30 minutes and about 20 Prospector limets scanning rocks, till i found 1 rock that had 23% content. Mined it for about 13 pieces of praseodymium.

The downside is being attacked all the time by pirates. Makes sure you ship is fast.

Gentlemen, thankyou all for your advice regarding gathering praseodymium, will take it onboard and try try again.
Yours aye
