.... by being more helpful and forgiving on one hand, regarding them as potentially higher threats in some situations on the other hand (Who does not attack red players in conflict zones as a priority, just to be on the safe side?).

You forgot "preferentially targeting them even though there are plenty of NPCs about (just because they are human)"....

My point earlier was that an experience player, especially one dedicated to killing other players for its own sake, would see through any form of masking a player's human-ness eventually. If griefing turns out to be a minor thing only, the transponder solution will be unnecessary; if it becomes a big problem, it will be rendered nigh useless.

That depends on how the potential targets fly - if NPC behaviour can be identified, it can be copied.

So you would rather that Frontier don't even give players the option?

We all know, this discussion can keep on forever...

But it's a nice timesink while waiting for Beta i have to admit.
We can't really say how it will turn out untill it has been tested.
And even then, noone knows what will happen when the gates open for release... most likely there will be changes after that, depending on which kind of players are attracted to the game and how they behave.

This is why I don't like the transponder - it creates a situation where people treat PCs & NPCs differently, such as in this example, where we're more likely to understand & forgive a stray shot from a human than from an NPC. IMHO, it should make no difference.
Having said that, I do feel that it's MUCH too easy to be criminalized in the game as it stands, & the way things are, half the player base will have a bounty on them most of the time, which looks to me like an open invite to the (over-hyped) griefing.

I think, if you are flying with the transponder off you aren't taking advantage of the Federation of Pilots protection. If somebody attacks you, maybe they don't get the extra bounty for attacking a human.

Has anyone at FD actually said this?

If it were true then it would address my main concern that turning the transponder off will be as much a griefing tool as a protection against griefing.

I would agree with this. If you look like and NPC, why wouldn't you be treated like one?

promote a sane and healthy environement.

... on the Internet and / or in a Multiplayer Game? LMAO... Riiiiight. That's so gonna happen.

More realistic is to wish for a magical unicorn to save the world with love.

The Internet is the place where humanities real side is revealed without all the artificial societal constructs, rules and penalties enforced.

If you hate trolls, griefers, spammers, idiots with an opinion yet an IQ lower than a rats fart or a creationist's... then it's best to avoid the Internet and / or multiplayer games.

The only way to really 'police' this game is to use the in-game police to respond to SOS transmissions and hope that your remlock works, and that the police catch or put a large enough bounty on the idiots head that NPC's or real players take them out eventually.

Again, that's going to rely on the ability to put out an SOS and tag your attackers for the system police to come after, and for other players or NPC's to collect your drifting body and return you safely to a station - and not shoot you or sell you off as a slave.

I was as surprised by the liveliness of it to be honest, I thought it ran out of steam after the first 30 pages. Then... it kept going with some nice points being thrown into the ring on both sides. I think because a lot of new backers and forum members were involved it took on a life of its own. I enjoyed it. But I do think everything that needed to be said was said.

I thought that 40 pages back though...
